I get the criticism for his part in their goal and how he faded in the second half but that is just plain wrong. We played with a good tempo in the first half and all three midfielders were at the heart of it. Allen included. He was frequently responsible for the breakdown in the good tempo in the first half. His touch and passing were atrocious, the guy needs a spell out of the team. Not only was he part of a good midfield performance in terms of tempo and passing, his forward running kept their most dangerous player, Bannan, occupied in behind him and gave Woods so much space in the process. Wednesday created nothing for the vast majority of the game and it was this tactic, of which Allen was a huge part, that caused it.

If he sorts that he will be brilliant I agree. But his last 7 performances have been average at best, horrendous at worst. Adding very little to defence and second half nothing to attack. Bannan was their MOM in my opinion so what is your point??? He kept him so busy that he (Bannan) changed the game? I don't get it

I don't get it Bannan came more into the game the more Allen faded into the second half. I think that is a tell tale sign of how well he played and the job he did for the first 60 minutes or so. I get it, people don't like him and want to have a go after a bit of disappointment in Sheffield. I'll let you into a little secret, I don't particularly rate him either. I won't criticise a player that doesn't deserve it though and he doesn't. The worst bloke on the pitch was BMI by a mile. At fault for their first, lost a vast proportion of his duels, was positionally all over the shop. No thread?

I feel, statistically, Allen had a poor game. Pass succession, dead ball succession, interceptions vs balls lost, balls lost in dangerous areas vs critical balls played....it will show some indifference in his game today but overall I think it will show glaring weaknesses that have been present week upon week. He also offered nothing going forward, no. of shots? no. of assists? Etebo was much better than him by all accounts, Woods miles ahead, he (Allen) was the 2nd worst of our attacking players only bettered in that department by the no legged Diouf. The biggest difference with this league will be the lack of statistics available for games just tell your own story kind of evaluations.

But I do like him. Now what We agree to disagree, I pass you a virtual pint and we go again next week... Fair enough, just pointing out the criticism isn’t just because “people want to have a go”. As I’ve said I like him and I thought he’d be a cut above in this division. But he’s been largely dreadful and wants dropping, however much a “statement of intent” his signing was supposed to be.
