news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/7417746.stmJust read the above article and although it rings true that a lot of talent has come form abroad because of the money, it will take a lot more than the 40 million the football leagues are investing into the roots and acadamies of the game, to give us the depth of talent England is looking for to have a good tilt at the World Cup in 2010 and future tournaments after that. If Blatter (awesome name!) wants to push through this 'six-plus-five' rule for starting teams in each top league around Europe, surely this would put a few more teams in with a shout of doing something each season.. Lets be honest with each other its the 'big 2' as I see Arsenal as spent force for next season as are Liverpool. Anyone care to comment or rip this thread to bits as is normally the case!

It's hard work to find the right players but if there is an English talent pool may I suggest that we don't send Michael Barrymore on this scouting mission?

What would stop the big four just buying all the best English players?

Sorry dutch, couldn't resist It is an interesting article though and although the point is valid about the actual number of English qualifying players I do wonder how the figure would change if it were to include British qualifying players. I don't think the stats would be quite as dramatic as the 170 out of 498 shows? In real terms 30 less to choose from isn't that ground breaking and I would suggest that more English players have had to drop down a division to get a game. These players (you would think) probably aren't ever going to be good enough for England anyway (especially when you look at some of the no marks who now make the squad!)

Not convinced it'll go through to be honest.
Far be it from me to defend Arsenal, but their transfer policy is entirely understandable - English players are astronomically priced, whereas foreign ones are often generally cheaper.
