Watched Wimmer last night. I'm not a fan of his, but I thought he was given very short thrift by us last season. He wasn't afforded much screen time in the game vs Dortmund, which is one way of saying that Hanover managed to keep Dortmund quiet, and the few times Wimmer came into action he did well. Still on our books.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_WimmerWimmer signed for Stoke City on 28 August 2017, for a fee of £18 million. Manager Mark Hughes said that "Bringing Kevin here is a real coup in my view, because he is a hugely talented young player who will undoubtedly add further quality to the group...There is a lot of money being spent this summer, so for us to get a player of Kevin’s calibre through the door for the price we have paid, in my opinion, is something we will really appreciate for years to come" Maybe he meant depreciate rather than appreciate??

Yes Mark, we'd appreciate your wisdom more if you actually believed this tripe and bought him off us

Yet further nails in the Teflon brothers coffin.

He’s a decent defender, we just paid over the top for him. He is not a decent PL defender in my opinion, slow, not strong in the air, positional sense average, passing ability average, all in all a shite PL defender in my opinion. I even wtached a couple of the few games he played for Spurs and I got the same impression. That was why I really disliked us going for this player and the price mentioned I really thought was a joke. I t was f-------- true though! Another player we will lose a lot of money on and that we will have to give away or sell for peanuts in the end. Did Hughes and co ever see him play before buying!??

He’s a decent defender, we just paid over the top for him. Except he can't (and has never been able to) jump. In Germany he can probably get away with that flaw, but, it is a fatal flaw in England for a central defender, even more so in The Championship.

Levy shafted us again, it's become a routine thing really!

He has clearly lost weight but was caught ball watching a few times and didn't track his runner from deep either.

He was well liked by the fans at Spurs. Based on what? I have one friend and two work colleagues who are Spurs fans,. all thought he was wank at Spurs, which was why he hardly played, and they thought we were made to pay £18m for him! Now three people does not represent the whole Spurs crowd, but for 3 season ticket holders to have the same opinion, and they are not mates, tells me what people think of him. There were Shawcross haters on here saying we had his replacement after the MN U game, in which Wimmer was at best “average” in my opinion. He was shit in every other game I watched him

He’ll probably be back next season as I doubt anyone is going to pay a reasonable fee for him, I’d actually have kept him here this season as we are short at CB and Shawcross and BMI have spent plenty of time on the treatment table in recent years.
Maybe under new management he will show his potential. Good luck to him for the season.

Problem was that Spurs paid 4m or thereabouts for him - he did nothing to justify he was particularly worth any more (or indeed less) than that. Which places him as a bang average back up CBwith a 2nd tier footballing nation. Think the level of Grant Hanley, at Scotland, or Yoshida perhaps at Soton. We paid 18m. Why? Well the skill of Levy and his dark arts got pitted against the deseparate, deluded and hapless idiots at our place.

Maybe he will recover the form he had which prompted Spurs to buy him.
If so, we have an asset next summer, to use or sell. At 25 he could yet get his career back on track.
Always look on the bright side.

People asked if we scouted him at Spurs, well he hardly played for them or Austria so if our recruitment team did some due diligence I guess it was from video. He couldn't and still can't get into a very average Austrian national side so 18m for such a player seemed bizarre at the time after a few games it was obvious it was total insanity. Wimmer Imbula Berahino and it's been said many times before why are people that were involved in those deals still employed by the club. In any other business other than football to fritter away £50m and get virtually zip in return would see the whole boardroom sacked.
