In the less-salubrious areas of Burslem, They look inside litter & waste vessels, For a spot of breakfast, lunch, or tea, They discover a deceased pet, And consider it a banquet, In the less-salubrious areas of Burslem

There is a place for the word "snowflake" but it's none of these definitions above. It boils down to a sense of entitlement from a moral perspective, it refers to an individual who demands concessions from others to cater to an inability to be faced with an alternative viewpoint. It is not someone who is easily offended. It is someone whose esse to offence leads them to seek safe spaces, demand apologies, contact authorities, claim PTSD etc. It requires exaggeration. It's typically an appropriation of some issue that has nothing to do with them that they take up as a crusade to make them appear morally superior. With this comes a perceived idea that they share some sort of common ground with the oppressed and that they are all just the same. Typically this is counter-productive as it can be unintentionally offensive itself, as it assumes that the snowflake is some sort of crusader coming to the aid of the oppressed minority, who would otherwise have no ability to speak for themselves. It is condescending and trivialises the plight of the actual oppressed. If, for instance, I was to say "You shouldn't take the piss out of her for being a black disabled transgender lesbian", I would not be a snowflake. If I was to say "Oh my God, I am LITERALLY shaking right now, how dare you come out with that Nazi shit? I'm hyperventilating. My black transgender disabled lesbian sisters and I are SICK of your backwards, uneducated bullshit and I DEMAND on their behalf that you apologise. Otherwise I will be getting you fired from your job. I am making it my own personal mission to speak up for all the oppressed and I won't rest until I get justice for all" Then I have: 1. Made it all about me 2. Spoken on behalf of the real victim 3. Assumed I share the experience of the victim 4. Assumed I have more authority to change the situation than the victim 5. Resorted to hyperbole 6. Claimed extreme offence 7. Attempted bullying. I would be a snowflake. Regardless, it's still not a term that I'd use in a serious discussion because it's counter-productive to throw around insults if you actually have a decent argument. This, sir, has smashed it out of the ballpark to an extent which has never been seen before. The term was initially used by the the extreme right to belittle the extreme liberal; and has been bastardised by all and sundry for anybody who expresses any modicum of sympathy, empathy or discontent at comments or actions made by others. It is used for anybody who doesnt like, for example, the policies, actions and behaviour of the Trump administration. It is used with complete ignorance of its true origin and intent. The same is also true, where terms such as racist and bigot, are used against anyone even partially right leaning, whereas it is only those on the extreme who are actually deserved of such an accusation. As such, discussions revert to being 'snowflakes' vs 'racists', whereas the majority of participants in those discussions are no such thing This Sir is horseshit and was not "initially used by the hard right" - first recorded in popular culture as a line in Fight Club (film and book) and again in other US literature - Snowflake Genration where a Uni senior thought protests and indignation surrounding Halloween on campus were a bit pathetic...... Stop politicising and trying to make it a right v left thing - the term is there for us all to enjoy..... 😄

Sorry, whilst I of course recognise its (mis)use to close-down debate in a similar way to which "racist" are it's no ones exclusive preserve.....

She stood there laughing at the joke I had made which in turn was found hilarious I put my penis into her hand, at which the laughter stopped because this was not deemed to be very funny and ruined the initial joke that caused laughter *sound of saying woah very loudly* Sorry for putting my penis into your hand, Delilah Sorry for putting my penis into your hand, Delilah So, before, you come and break down the door or possibly use a blacksmith to break into the lock in anger for putting my penis in your hand Forgive me Delilah I just could not think straight anymore and will think about my actions accordingly in the future Sanitised and shorter version I stalked her, She relieved me, Then sulked
