Despite those fears he was happy enough to take those extortionate wages for as long as possible.

I’m usually first in line to slag this guy off as a pundit as he bores me to tears but he gave an incredibly honest interview on BT sport about his injuries. The latter part of his career must have been very frustrating for him.

As a multi millionaire no I wouldn't.
I resigned from a well paid job without another to go to because I hated it and I haven't got a pot to piss in

Injuries etc aside, even when he was fit and available for us he was never used frequently enough......was it one goal he scored? Could’ve and should’ve been more wasn’t used properly in my opinion.

Don't expect people to read the article! Maybe this is why he's an awful pundit, he doesn't have the love for the game others have.

Sad to here. I loved Mikey Owen growing up and I was buzzing to see him in a Stoke shirt even in the latter stages of his career.
What could have been if he wasn't plagued but injuries...

He got 20k per week no matter what and an additional 15k if he was fit for selection, which he always was because he never played so as to get injured. He then got a host of other bonus related payments which saw him earn at least 65k for his 3 minute cameo at Swansea where he scored. Had we win the game he'd have picked up 80k for that particular week. He ended up with that contract because the football administrators at that time didn't know the transfer rules but still, there is nothing wrong with the process nor has there ever been.

On discovering that wasn't the case the balance of power in negotiations shifted somewhat.

I seem to be in a minority of people who actually like Michael Owen. He's a shit pundit, but he was a wonderful player to watch until the latter years. I was so chuffed when we signed him, and bitterly disappointed when he never really played. That one goal he scored though was very clever and while we only had the broken and fragile Michael Owen, I would have loved to see him in his prime up top for us.
Football can be cruel and injuries probably ruined the best English striker of his generation. You could probably go further and say he wasn't just the best English striker.... he was perhaps one of the best in the world. What a shame.

You get old, you get injured.... sounds like a sob story..... retire at your peak then! Oh wait, money was there!! Have to pay for those horses now Michael.

Rooney never had the blistering pace that allowed Owen to take apart that Argentina defence in ‘98. It takes bollocks to admit that he struggled massively after injuries (which are bound happen to someone with hamstrings as short as his and he explains are probably genetic in his interview anyway) and even during/after those injuries he scored his fair share for Real Madrid, Newcastle and Man U. He also explains in his interview (as I mentioned before) that he went to Coates and offered to walk away from his contract as he didn’t feel as though he was doing it justice, but don’t let any of this get in the way of your agenda.

My agenda? He was a professional footballer who had some injuries. Big whoop. Growing up Roy Keane was one of my idols he was never the same after his major injury, there are hundreds of players that probably never even made it, I know a few who had terrible injuries level 3 hamstrings tears, ruptured Achilles/snapped, ACL, the list goes on.
He had some injuries which he had to deal with had top clubs who got him through what obviously sounds like a sob story for the last 6/7 years. There are only a cluster probably I.e. messi, Ronaldo, zidane etc who were at the top of the game from young age to early mid 30s?
My agenda is, why now? If he felt that strong about it he knew he was finished before he signed at United so what was his agenda? To come on BT sport and say the last few years I was never the same and wanted to retire.. then retire and do it when you’re at the top of your game... Owen has never been short of a penny or two that’s for sure

He won the Ballon d'Or - why wouldn't he think he could at least try, and when you've done something all your life, it must be scary not knowing what will come next, however much you get paid. I wonder what sort of career an injury-free Dean Ashton would've had

Its a bit like the effect we have with crouch at the moment he gives us status and marketing power and image in the world of football and this is more valuable to us than the number of games he gets.

But he didn’t have his whole game based around running off the shoulder of the last man and although not slow pace wasn’t his stand out main attribute in the way Owen relied on it.

The saddest thing for me is southhampton away last game ,wehad tommy sorrenson who loved our club knowing it was his last game game up to the massive stoke following ,I tried to. Start oh tommy tommy ...etc but was drowned out by one Michael Owen, there's only one ...the mercenary .....I saw him score his only goal at Swansea ..how many fine saves did tommy save for us ...tommy looked gutted ,he gave his all for Stoke

He just needs to get on with it. I don’t think I’ve heard Shearer, Keane have a moan, maybe I’m wrong. Put it in a book Michael. Make some money off it 🙏
