Are we really praising Berahino for a lively performance?
Can we save this for when he does finally (IF EVER) score a goal

Berahindrance is a lost cause. You'd think he'd have got one in via his arse by now thanks to the law of averages, but he can't even do that.

He looked a lot fitter and trimmer. He looked up for it first half and as said previously did not get that slice of luck. He played better than some and I am sure given a few games he will come an important part of our season.
It's not going to be a quick fix but why not let him get on with it and who knows?

Massively unlucky with his header! Anywhere else and it would have been a goal, straight at the keeper. Bad miss.

I thought he was about our best player (EDIT- in the first half) yesterday.
On the few occasions that we actually linked some play up he was usually at the heart of it. He wanted the ball and tried to make things happen.

Played well - held the ball up, brought people into play and made some good runs - notably for the header where he was unlucky not to score. On that performance deserves another start.

Didn't score, but he linked play very well. I'd be very tempted to continue playing him with Afobe because with Joe Allen in midfield we will never dictate the control and pace of the game so may as well go front to back as quickly as possible and he'll help with that.

If we are going to keep him, we should given him a few starts. He was solid with limited service, and actually looked like he wanted to be on the park.

For all the publicity about the time he has had without scoring, how many starts or games has he played ?
Gen question as I don’t know the answer, but I suspect not a lot. Past managers may have had valid reasons for not playing him but he did not look to bad yesterday.
I would play him with Affobe again against Wigan.

We created nothing. We hoofed it to Afobe and then Crouch. What exactly do people expect from our forwards when we play like this? James McClean is an abomination of a footballer. A pathetic joke. McClean would have been an ok on a free transfer with WBA contributing half of his wages. Why we felt the need to help our fellow relegated teams, Swansea with Clucas and WBA with him I think was very short sighted. Clucas hopefully is going to be a world beater for us, but for a championship club like us to be spending 14m on utility players in their late twenties is in reality crazy. If they happen to not perform there is no market for clubs who will want them and they will be added to the long list of dead wood when we no longer have prem money.

He looked sharp and might have scored , if we can get a midfield that will create enough chances he might even score again one day , him and Afobe could even be a decent front two in this league in a team that created chances and had players who could play more decent passes in to them
For that to happen though we need a back four with pace and better service so we can push forward.
He can't play as a n0 10 I don't think.

Played very well I thought, no worse than anybody else, there is just nothing from out wide to feed off. Ince was very poor today I thought both ince and mcclean were shocking. Very worrying we didn't 16 million quid on those two and they looked shit scared at times. Ince was better once he moved to the left wing. On the right he drifts in too much and we lose our width.

So, Berahinogoals gets his big chance...and still doesn't score.
Just to rub it in, Crouch comes on and takes about a minute to find the net.
That Berahinogoals is anywhere near the first team tells you all you need to know about our 'ambition' and indeed our 'chances of promotion'. Last time I checked, you needed to score goals to gain promotion, unless we've discovered some incredible new system to get round that.

After bigging him up recently, Rowett has to persevere with him and Afobe up top.thought they linked up quite well. To drop him now would be the final nail in the coffin for him.

This is the issue I raised a long time ago. GR is having to try different formations and teams because he did not have everyone in for preseason. The board should have made sure we were up and running but no.

The board should have made sure we were up and running but no. With the world cup, the early start and inevitable player churn this has to be one of the shortest preseasons ever. In addition most of our rivals were less affected by the world cup and have pretty much carried on where they left off last season. We're playing catch up and we're not going to see what we've really go until the end of September. Little things like Berahino's performance hopefully indicate the potential of the squad.

Last time I checked, you needed to score goals to gain promotion, unless we've discovered some incredible new system to get round that. You see the game in a very simplistic way. We lumped the ball up to Berahino and Afobe, not even remotely how they want to play. Berahino was regularly dropping back into midfield to get the ball as the clueless fuckers behind him kept punting it no where. Of course neither of them were going to get a look in playing that way. We put Crouch on and continued to lump it up which suits him better, he scored off the back of his head but did absolutely nothing for the rest of the time on the pitch.

Like Fletcher and McClean, Bera-no-goals is a WBA cast-off and none of them any feckin good. Feck the three of them to Vale on free transfers. It’s about their feckin level.

Bera was a big positive of the day. Looked really lively, buzzing around and held the ball up really well on more than one occasion. Some nice little interchanges with the wide men as well and he actually looked like he cared for a change.
Unlucky with the header as well. The keeper didn’t know much about the save, did all the right things with his run and header. Just unlucky.
Faded second half but that is to be expected until he gets a good run in the side. Positive signs.

for 10 minutes. Is there hope? Hope that: - Rowett has been pressurised to try him from the top (a Coates watery-eyed charity case; a piece of judgement from Cartwright). Best get it over with ASAP. - A flame burns brightest before it dies. Its the last we will see of him for a while after that burst of effort. At least 6 months recovery time now needed. - It takes seeing to believe. Rowett now sees with his own eyes and won't try something as silly again. - Beharinho is one step closer to giving it all up to join the clergy. - The TfW window isn't yet shut. ....lots of reasons to hope there on a (not so) bright, sunny Monday morning. -

He wanted the ball and tried to make things happen. I am amazed there are people on here agreeing with you . It just goes to show football his truly a game of opinions .
He DIDN'T make anything happen . Crouch did.
It is madness to try and fit in a striker into your team , who never scores .Why would you want to do that ?
Crouch , at 37 , is absolutely totally past it , and he still has 3 goals in his last 5 away games for stoke . Afobe has 2 goals this season , and he has only been here 5 minutes .
There are no takers , in the entire football league , for a striker who hasn't scored in over two years , and even then scored after going 4 months without a goal .
Why would we want him playing for us ? if nobody else wants him ?
He is so bad , we can't even loan him to a team in Scotland
