..on players and the manager this summer? Yet for their peppercorn rent of £2.5m a year they win a battle with the landlord (taxpayer) as follows... But the club and the corporation were in dispute over who should pay to make the stadium more supporter friendly, and a mutually agreed legal expert has ruled in West Ham's favour. This means the LLDC must pay for: Work to replace the material around the pitch perimeter The installation of pumps to allow the sale of draught beer at all bars Hospitality staff who work in the corporate boxes at the stadium Ensuring all televisions at the ground are allowed to show live sport - West Ham paid for the licence but the London Stadium had adverts on some screens Disgusting financial doping at its worst, made worse by the huge investment in the playing side and the revenue from Sky. Pisses me off. Source bbc www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45208151

Only time will tell how this will impact their finances in the long run. Effectively they're investing in players which are much more volatile than other assets. It could work out well for them or they could end up with a squad similar to ours which would put a financial strain on them because they'd be unable to loan against traditional assets.

I think Spurs are about to debunk this pre-Sky myth. Compared with the time when Arsenal built their stadium Spurs have more leverage at the bank with their playing assets. Kane at £100m plus and their younger players let's them leverage far more at the bank than the current Stadium value as a proportion.

Spending 100m plus, just to stop fans trashing your Bentley and trying force you out the club before you can make the kind of profit on the club you would like to make, is small change.

I'm sure at the start of the Liverpool v West Ham game last week, the commentator said that the two teams between them had spent a quarter of a billion pounds on players during the summer.

Yours may be I don’t mind West Ham at all they have made the best they could and don’t accept the status quo , we werent so moral when taking the Britannia stadium in some people’s eyes either , but it’s top flight sport and those that stand still or worse perish as we have done

Despite their owners, their fans (celebrity and those youngsters spoofed last season threatening Everton fans on social media), their government hand outs, free stadium, the endless "West Ham won it for you in 1966", the "West Ham" way of playing, stealing Arnautavic, their unceasing ability to attract top class mercanies, er I mean players, due their location I really hope they do well this season and avoid the ignominy of relegation that we endured last season
Not 😬

Plus I'm pretty sure we had to pay for all the catering, security etc and the cost of building didnt shoot up 300m.

I googled LLDC and discovered it can stand for several things, but London Legacy Development Company sounds right. However, I don’t understand the UK tax system at all, having been an ex-pat for 38 years - I have enough trouble with ours. Can someone explain how this affects taxpayers in SOT, and why it is not just a London issue?

wasnt the bet 365 built with stoke on trent councils money and then finally bought back by stoke city for a pittance ;0) Not really. The council only contributed £3.1M of the initial £14.7M build cost. Stoke paid £4.5M for the councils share 10 years later. Probably the best investment our pathetic council have ever made! West Ham would need to fork out a cool 1 Billion quid in 2027 in order to keep up with us and provide a 50% uplift, to the taxpayer, over a 10 year period on the £650M build/renovation cost!
