We won't get promotion. It's as simple as that. For everything we have done so far, we simply have as much to do again IMO. That's nothing against the club or Rowett, just an honest opinion of the situation. I think every one of us are guilty of underestimating the challenge, starting in the boardroom and ending on the terraces, to varying degrees. I didn't.

Realistically, I expect us to do fuck all. The rot is too deep, too many players not capable and the club lacking leadership and direction from the top down.

Given the overhaul that was needed and given it wasn't going to take one summer (thats technically shorter btw given the world cup), top ten and looking like we've put together a good basis of a team that can push for promotion next season would be okay for me, I wouldn't be ecstatic but given whats happened to some teams when they've gone down I wouldn't complain too much, I know this goes against the grain on here but its a big job that needs doing given we have half a squad that needs to be shown the door and needs replacing, it was always going to hold us back.
Saying that, I understand that people think it should be promotion first time of asking given the money spent.

The club management has been quoted too that immediate promotion to the Premier League is the target.

Let's set milestones.
Start off by actually passing to a team-mate, work up to scoring from our own steam in open play and then let's go crazy and win a game of football.
Baby steps and all that.

Well, by the board's own dogma it has to be promotion. They've been ramming it down our throats that's what they want to achieve so now they have to back it up. Personally, I would have accepted a complete clearing of house, a solid mid-table-playoffs season and then an all out assault next year. We're reaping the "benefits" of repairing the mast on a sinking ship in my point of view. Far too many players don't want to be here, have low confidence or just plain aren't very good. We needed to clear those out IMO, but the board have set their own expectations....so they must live or die by that.

Success is promotion. Anything else is failure. I'd say that even the play-offs are failure. Whether or not this squad is currently capable of that is neither here nor there really. If it's not, then that just indicates failure. It can't be anything else but this. Scholes said as recently as a few days ago, that the club have made it quite clear, that the intention is go back up straight away. We have spent more money, bought more players and have a wage bill that far exceeds anybody else's. Whether the money spent (not just on the players but on the manager and senior executives as well) has been spent wisely, is still yet to be determined however. Exactly this and by Xmas the best part of 35-45 goals scored, a reputation as one of the most feared sides in the league! Anything less is just unthinkable TBH!

If our 1st.2 games are anything to go by,avoiding relegation will be a success.

The table doesn't lie and this is NOT a top six start to the seasonView Attachment The table after 3 games is literally zero indication of what it will be like after 46 games. So it does lie. Fucking football fans.

The facts are shown clearly in the table and I agree that things maybe very different after 46 games however my original question was about what can be considered success by Christmas or half-way through this season. What do you think is acceptable?

What do you think is acceptable? I'd hope we're top of the league. But I honestly don't care as long as we're playing decent football, attacking and looking to play on the front foot. That's all that is acceptable for me.

If I've enjoyed at least one home game by Christmas it'll be an achievement.
