If you scroll down to the end you can see he has had a book ghost written which he is trying to promote.

I'll ask the obvious question - will our club shop be stocking the book?

Does the book explain that performance against Everton? Now that was 'mental'... Did he give away a pen in the last minute or something? Or am I getting it mixed up with whoever it was that kept making terrible challenges on the edge of the box where we'd concede from the free kicks?

He's about the 30 swipes he had at the Everton player to almost purposely foul him before bringing him down. It was like he had to as their was a major bet on it or something. Something I've never witnessed in 35 years before. No intention of trying to get the ball, all he cared about was fouling the man which he did so eventually in the box.
He had enough to chances to win the ball cleanly but wasn't bothered about it. Has anyone got another clip of it?

A close family member of mine met him and his wife through business and said he was a lovely bloke to deal with, as well as his wife being very pleasant. Didn't know who it was until after and when I told this person who and what he was they couldn't believe the negative press around him.
Very polite by all accounts. Don't believe everything you read in the press I think the saying is.

I've been to a wedding and two christenings in Eastwood, Nottingham when he's been there (he's the cousin of one of my wife's best friends) Very quiet and unassuming the times I've met him, happy to talk football but pretty shy really......

Don't believe everything you read in the press I think the saying is. A smashing player on his day - almost (but not quite) touched with greatness. I have no reason to believe he can't often be very pleasant to deal with when you meet him. But none of this detracts from the fact that he has a well deserved reputation for being a bit of a bastard away from the game when he is minded to be so. His record of convictions speaks for itself and many of the juicy stories in the press about him have been well documented - there doesn't appear to be any sort of campaign by the media to present him in any worse a light than the facts would justify. He's a true life Jekyll and Hyde character. Funny, even likeable, in many ways, but a very flawed character. And some of the flaws are not very pleasant for those on the wrong end of his antics.

Tough upbringing. Couldn't even read when he went to Arsenal at about 16. Did alright for himself all things considered.

He's always talked about as a waster but how many motherless, illiterate teenagers growing up surrounded by lowlifers and druggies end up playing in the Champions League and an FA Cup Final.

Feel for the guy because of his upbringing. But I suppose thats no excuse. He is well and truly funny as fuck, just not when its your team he's effecting. Shame he never reached his potential. But then again, he aint done half bad!

Don't believe everything you read in the press I think the saying is. A business associate of mine had dealings with him a few years ago and reported exactly the same experience. The fact that young men with ridiculous amounts of money sometimes do daft things really shouldn’t be a surprise - it’s been the same through the ages. The difference is that we now have a section of the press that is extremely hypocritical and thrive on reporting these things with mock outrage.

They wheeled him out on Good Morning Britain breakfast TV on ITV this morning ostensibly to talk about football, 'clebs' and bad boys but in reality to punt the book.
Said his father stole his 14th birthday money to buy drugs.
I must say I found it excruciating, he's not a natural for TV and it was like they couldn't decide if to do it as a serious brought up on the mean streets hard luck story or a salutary tale of a life of football, money and hedonism.
I don't think Pennant knew either. He was caught between 2 stools of wallowing in the misfortune of his tough upbringing and trying to surpress a grin about the amount of shagging he has done.
It really limped along and I would imagine it was a huge relief to all concerned when they were able to finally move on to the next item.
I wouldn't go chasing the replay.

I remain convinced that he had a bet on that we'd not win that game. He was like a man possessed, more so than I'd ever seen him be in an attacking sense. He was determined to give them a penalty. The fact that his contract was terminated a couple of weeks later is some coincidence.

The fact that his contract was terminated a couple of weeks later is some coincidence. In absolutely no doubt he did this for a bet. No other explanation. Has anyone got a clip of this they can find somewhere?
