Hi Angela
I have just had the dubious pleasure of watching what the Official Site calls "extended highlights" of the Leeds Stoke game. I logged on and clicked play and was pleased to see that I would be getting 12 min 14 sec of highlights. The video started and I was treated to 20 seconds of the teams walking out onto the pitch - fair enough, I thought, it sets the tone for the video. I was then "treated" to the whole of a minute's silence. As there was no commentary I don't know who the minute's silence was for - fan, player, ex player, FA bigwig, Stoke's relegation - I am still non the wiser. Then another 20 seconds of the players strolling into position to kick off. At the end of the game we had 30 seconds of Leeds fans applauding their team off. Now I accept that the same highlights package was probably put on the Leeds site so I'm not complaining that the picture was of Leeds fans - but a picture from a static camera of 30 seconds of the same fans applauding seems excessive - which ever fans they are.
Altogether on a 12 min and 14 second video we had only 10 minutes of the game and no commentary on any of the video. I appreciate some people don't like the, often inane, commentaries on these videos but, if you don't like them you can always switch the sound off or turn it down.
Other points from the video: Is it too much to ask for the occasional replay or slow mo of incidents in the game such as the penalty, the best saves and a replay of Butland's blunder for the second goal?
There are a lot of downsides to being out of the Premier League. Most of them are outside the club's control. It seems a shame if the video highlights (over which both clubs should have SOME measure of control) are so much less well made than they could be.
Can you, if you agree with my points, raise this with the club please?
Thanks John.

Paul Madeleys death was the reason for the minutes silence.

Paul Madeleys death was the reason for the minutes silence. Cheers for that gaz, a smashing player who's death had slipped my mind. But on a modest length of video it still seems excessive to show the whole minutes silence and to do so with no statement as to who the silence was for, is disrespectful to the family of the deceased - with no commentary on the vdeo, even a bit of text on the screen at the start explaining who it was for would have done the occasion justice.

I don't know if it's the same this season, but last season the adverts were WAY louder than the highlights and interview videos. I'd turn the volume down, then not be able to hear the commentary or interviews, then I'd get blasted so much it hurt my ears at the end.

I have an answer for you re the highlights package John. The club have no control over the highlights. They are produced for the EFL by ITN.

I have an answer for you re the highlights package John. The club have no control over the highlights. They are produced for the EFL by ITN. Fair enough if the clubs have no direct control. But surely clubs must be able to give feedback to the producers of the video? I would imagine that if enough feedback is given making the same points then there is a chance that things might improve over time? My points, in summary are: 1. Maximise the amount of the video which is actually taken from the game. 2. Include a few replays or slow mo of significant incidents 3. Have a commentary I bet if EFL clubs all canvassed feedback from their fans these three items would crop up time and time again. If feedback is not allowed then perhaps the EFL should be asked why it isn't allowed - or, better still, encouraged! It would be easy to imagine (from the response of the club) that ITN (as producers) set the rules on the videos. But the games are a product of the EFL and I can't see ANY reason why the EFL would not want to improve their product. And feedback is vital if improvements are to be made.
