And the massive over reactions continue. Bring back the cage my fucking fat hairy arse, have you lot heard yourselves? Rowett has had no time at all yet to fully sort the mess that Hughes, Lambert and the rest have left him. He needs time and a bit of patience because he's proved in the past that he knows how to assemble good sides in this division but it won't happen overnight. What happened on Sunday will only serve to help Rowett no more about what he needs to make us stronger and eventually he will have the players he wants to suit a system that he wants to play. This ^^

Stoke City supporters... always looking over their shoulders. That'd be because our best times are behind us.

This from Barney Ronay is still my favourite tribute to the great man. Try reading it without tears rolling down your face! "And if these really are the last days of disco for English football's last-century methods, it is tempting to think that one day they might just come again, that four years of Pulis-ball Stoke were just too great and too much fun to be gone for ever." Muscular tracksuit-husbandryI love that piece as well. I've never forgotten this inspired little analogy from the moment I read it: "Even as the good times began to roll Pulis felt the need to go out and sign the Turkey midfielder Tuncay Sanli in much the same way a socially aspirational 18th-century farmer might have imported at vast expense a clankingly useless Austrian harpsichord that nobody within 300 miles can play and which ends up being used to prop open the parlour door."

Remind me,how many away games did we win under Pulis?

We have never looked more solid than when we had this bad boy set up. Whelan or Whitehead under the simple instructions of protecting the back four, breaking up play, keep it simple and don't move out of your area. The gaps between the midfield and back four are so great a freight train could pass through and it's been an ongoing issue for so long. Solve that and a lot of issues would be solved, i'm sure.In Joe Allen we have got a player who really is ideal to the role. He harries, gets his foot in, has got the right temperament and can be a general annoyance. I don't see how this guy hasn't been moulded into a truly class defensive midfielder. great call, I agree - certainly for this season. however (for once in his life!) I fear gift is probably right...

A lot of arm waving and taking instruction from a guy wearing the club shop. Also has to be wearing a baseball style navy blue trucker cap.
That allows him to get instructions over in a more timely manner.
You're as boring as your idol.

Do people forget that the last season and a half under Pulis was almost as dreadful as last year? Fuck me alive, yes he got us promoted and kept us in the premier, but that wasn’t football. All the post bemoaning the championship and people are begging us to get a manager that plays that exact way. I honestly and truly give up. Give Rowett a chance ffs Pulis fans rather than Stoke fans mate. They should 'fuck off up the Boro'.

"too much fun"...….did you not go to any away games during his last 18 months in charge? Fun??? Fucking brain numbingly tedious you mean!! Setting out to achieve a 0-0 at the start regardless of opposition and having no plan B when we went a goal down!!

Effective as in having the worst away record in the division and one of the worst in the entire leagues across Europe? Is he balls right you fool. Not a fan of Pulisball, however, bringing back the cage temporarily for one midfield player would massively help us with our shape issues and being blown wide open. Leeds walked through the middle of the pitch on Sunday and there was an enormous gap between the 2 centre halves. Caging Badou or Allen would go a long way to solving that problem.

It's all well and good having the midfield cage when you've got 2 creative wingers (one with pace) and a striker who is a magician and a player doing his donkey work just behind.
Until we have those sort of players I'll pass thanks

Saying bringing it back is not implying that things were better with Pulis or we should in anyway way go back to that brand of football, it's stating that for much of the time we were a fairly solid unit with that in place. Which we were. I have no doubt Rowett would have been concerned at how open we we were and will have his own ideas on how to fix it.
