McLean and ince are never wingers... Ince moved into his natural position in advanced midfield and McLean couldn't cross a bingo card.! So that means afobe looks stupid because no service and also puts pressure on the defence because it just keeps coming straight back to them.... Not impressed with pre season and we've carried it on to the start..

Wingers we not our problem, both had reasonable games in my eyes...
What is an issue is the fact our midfield weren't able to provide them or the striker with any support.

The problem was more the ocean between the midfield and Afobe, plus the fact that Afobe, hopefully due to a lack of fitness more than anything else, had all the mobility and sharpness of Meatloaf.

I offered him £100 for the piano he seemingly had strapped to his back as he walked down the tunnel on Sunday.

Which is why both Ince and McClean went inside in search of the ball and the chance to contribute. At one time they were placed within two yards of each other. It's ok because neither is a traditional winger, not like Pennant and Etherington for instance. Not that it helped because the opposition was just too superior.

We were crying out for pace and width last season, we are still crying out for pace and width this season, neither Ince or IRA offer much as wingers so why have we signed them to play as wingers ?

Just hope it's because of whatever knock he was supposedly carrying, because I thought he was supposed to be rapid, and he hasn't looked it in pre-season or on Sunday.

But my advice to whoever is responsible for the process would be that in future, it might be wise to sign players who have played recently, regularly, and have shown themselves to be good? Afobe reminded me of Bony

Afobe reminded me of Bony To be fair, Afobe pretty much ticked that box. His record for Wolves was decent and suggested he'd do well, and there's every chance he will. It'd definitely be nice to sign more players on their way up though I agree. Signing a striker suited to how the manager wants to play seems to have become harder than finding the ark of the covenant for some reason.
