I thought he was meant to be rapid?
That’s how I remember him at Bournemouth.
No use just punting the ball up to him, no chance of it sticking.

He seemed to slot into our standard striker role quite well in that he looked lost and ineffective.

Not impressed. He was holding his back which he did against wolves.

Yeah, honestly. How long will it take for people to realise that our strides look shit because they’re not supported? Bojan needs to be behind him. GR’s said we looked better once he came on for that reason.

We could have Messi upfront it would make zero difference.

Felt for him a bit today. Absolute shite service all game, basically Ryan's trademark shankers are all he had to go off.
Jesus, if he rolls out 4-3-3 again next week, Rowett can kiss my crack.

It seemed more like we were playing a 4-5-Fifty yards of space-1 today.
It's strange because its the same problem we've had since Pulis left, that playing that 1 central striker who seems to be expected to do it all. Either he needs someone like Bojan behind him - although thats risky since Bojan typically needs a true free role to excel or he needs a forward partner. Not someone intermittently coming inside like Ince, or hoping McClean can put in a wonder cross.

Name me a player who actually gave him some service? Apart from that shit ball into the box pass from McLean who gave him anything? If he had a decent supply of balls into the box he would be devastating. Its all about supply!!!!

He never was given a through ball to chase and he didn't even receive a pass that was only chest high that he would have had a chance of controlling. Everything hit up to him was well above him or wide of him. What is the point of hitting a ball to him that he has to jump for when there is no one near enough to head it to. I will reserve judgement until I see him get some decent service.Could be waiting a while on todays show.

He doesn’t look 100a% fit, and he got absolutely no service. Pick any top class forward from anywhere in the world, put them in that side we saw today, and the outcome would be 100% the same.
I’ll reserve judgment on Afobe until I see him in a side that can create chances for him.

He’s not a target man.
Yet we pumped 50/60 yard balls at his head and expected him to play like Crouch.
If he’s going to do that, play Crouch. Who looked like a target man funnily enough. It’s a horrible thought but feck me we’re that desperate already.
Afobe needs Bojan behind him, it’s that simple. We knew that last week and the week before but here we are.
Or play 442.

He seemed to slot into our standard striker role quite well in that he looked lost and ineffective. It really is incredible how well our last couple of managers have been able to isolate our lone strikers to absolute fuck though. Incredible. I wanted to hurl all over the telly for 70 minutes. With the right support I reckon the lad will come good. The poor chap was eaten alive today.

Felt incredibly sorry for him today. He was accused of a lack of effort on Sky and I thought that was unfair. At times today he had nobody within 20 yards of him and the only service he had was the Shawcross Sand Wedge.
He has always come across to me as someone who likes balls over the top, rather than a back to goal striker? Have I got it wrong?

1 in 1 and a goal on his debut so at least he's up and running. As many others have said, he needs more service. I think he could link up well with Ince/Bojan this season!

Get Bojan behind him & then we will see what he is all about, thought Ince looked very tidy in flashes today & i think he would flourish having someone to play with when coming inside.

Needs a bit more fire and urgency? Needs someone within 15 yards of him would help him. How is he meant to win a header from a shawcross long ball...control the ball...turn and beat three defenders. ...run 25 yards and score... Our tactics today were of no use to what is a proven goalscorer at this level. Poor tactics today to blame not Afobe.
