Afternoon fellow stokies, anyone have any idea as to which pubs they will be drinking in in Leeds or around leeds? Like most others I assume I haven't been leeds in a long time, I would of been around 13 as I'm 24 now! Times change, pubs close and open so I'm just wondering where others will be drinking. We get the train from stoke at 9 am.

You'll find it tough going to get a pub in Leeds.
There are none by the ground, none in Leeds city centre and absolutely nothing in headingly. Your best bet is probably ikea cafe off j27 of the motorway with a quick stroll down the the ground alongside the a621

We get the train from stoke at 9 am. If you are after a neutral(ish) venue, you could try The Cuthbert Brodrick on Millennium Square - it's a big Wetherspoons. I've worn Stoke colours in there over the past 10 years if I've been having breakfast or something before getting on the train for an away game, and got no real hassle off Leeds fans apart from the odd piss-taking comment, although of course it's a different matter now that we are 'competition' once again - I don't think I'd wear colours in there on Sunday, not that I'd imagine the security would let me in if I was. There are some good pubs in the alleyways of Briggate (Whitelocks, for example) but I'd stay away from most pubs on Vicar Lane, Kirkgate, Boar Lane or the Headrow, as they will be packed out with Leeds fans; The Horse and Trumpet and the Scarborough Hotel are still firm favourites as pre-match drinking spots, and I personally avoid Yates Wine Lodge on Boar Lane like the plague the whole year round, whether there's football on or not. If you are after a more 'upmarket' match day experience, Leeds now has loads of trendy bars, cocktail and gin joints etc, with prices to match. Many places are likely to be pretty busy as it's Leeds Pride on Sunday as well as the football. Most of the bars attracting a gay clientele are down on Lower Briggate, and I think some of the streets / Leeds Bridge are closed off round there on Sunday as well for the event.

The official site announced yesterday that there is a dedicated away fans bar (Howards) I'm not sure if this is within the stadium or outside. Open from 1:30pm.

Living in Leeds I’d recommend - the midnight bell, cross keys, the boat house and northern monk brewery.
Should be fine if you’re behaved and don’t wear colours.

That's a good half-mile away from the pubs mentioned above though. 'Holbeck Urban Village' as the council likes to call the area off Water Lane is generally pretty sanitized compared to the genuine southern badlands of Leeds.

I live in nearby Shipley but its not on the train route from Stoke. Really cosmopolitan place now is Leeds with loads of pubs especially if not wearing colours. And as for Headingley, it's a real lively student area but again out of the way. Long time since i've been other than the England game the other month. Went in Leeds pubs Wetherspoons on station and the Hop. The Midnight Bell and The Grove are ok but hard to find.

You can be lazy and go to the Whetherspoons as you leave the station by the City square exit, there are pedestrian signs then to Elland Rd, or you could be more discerning and pay more for not so good ale across the city square at Banyan's Bar.

Dunna fancy a neck-stabbing If I don't get stabbed in the neck (or at least see someone being stabbed in the neck) on Sunday I'll be writing to the Supporters Council and petitioning for a full refund of both my match ticket and travel costs. We've not dropped down for the championship for a piss about. If I don't witness at least three chip vans being put on their roof this season I'm contacting that bloke off of Rogue Traders.

More bars at the top end of Leeds than there used to be (around Leeds arena) It’s a 10 minute walk from the station (and the wrong way from the ground) to New Briggate but Brotherhood and some decent bars on a small road down the side of it are fair options. I’ll be around that way.
The Drysalters is the usual away pub and while there’ll be home fans in there too, no mither.
I believe ‘Howards’ is in the away fans compound and is a converted hospitality area. Don’t know if it’s any good, though.
Come on you Rip Roaring Potters.

It's Leeds Pride on Sunday? The city is going to be absolutely heaving. Gays, lesbians and inbred stoke fans...what could possibly go wrong? Couldn’t believe it when I realised yesterday (I work in Leeds). Would echo what was said above about northern monk etc. Great pubs. Some good beer there. But word of warning it will be absolutely rammed everywhere with pride ensuring the main streets of Leeds are closed. Couple of Wetherspoons further in the centre.

All pubs in Leeds are absolute, complete and utter shit holes. It isn't really caused by Leeds - it is that fact that they belong in Yaaaarksha. A part of our fine, green and pleasant land that is best to be avoided at all times.

There's a pub called Veritas too! but behind the town hall near royal infirmary hospital and different direction to ground.

I'm a Stoke fan in West Yorkshire and what you said about the pubs was true in the early 80's its not the case now.

Leeds is an absolute shithole and somewhere to be avoided at all costs.
The best pub for the Leeds match is one in a different city.
