The arguments always raise about the greatest player the usual suspects role out Zidane, Maradona, Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo. I got to thinking who for one thing or another could have been the greatest and just didn’t get there, I will start with this guy

I feel Ronaldo is in the usual suspects. Gets a lot of praise, everyone knows if he didn't have his injuries he could've gone on to even greater things. Pace, power, expert dribbler, goalscorer. He literally did everything.

Ronaldo the greatest centre forward ever imo.
Enzo Francescoli Gheorge Hagi, Zico, Socrates, Platini, Gullit, Baggio are all ones just bubbling under in that great but not the very greatest pot.

I think he was probably the most complete centre forward ever. The two Ronaldo's infact.

Jimmy Greaves vs Geoff Hurst.
Duncan Edwards.
Paul Scholes if he was used properly for England.

Where are Pele and Cruyff? And from before my time Di Stefano, Puskas etc. Of those I have actually seen Pele was the greatest, the under the radar almost greatest would be Oleg Blokhin.

I got to thinking who for one thing or another could have been the greatest and just didn’t get there, I will start with this guy Ronaldo's too good for the group you're talking about. As a pure centre forward he is the greatest ever, and I'd say at least on a par with Zidane overall.

We never include keepers in these lists but Yashin, Zoff and of course Banksie were right up there.

I loved Stoichkov, quality player but that attitude, a thing of absolute beauty. All too often we praise players for having the right attitude under the presumtion this is turning up on time, eating well, being pleasant to fellow professionals. Nope, you’re wrong. I love watching players who look at everyone else like they’re idiots. The ones that wont chase a missed placed pass because you’ll never learn if I do. Stoichchkov could have been one of the greatest players but he chose a different path, a much more beautiful path.

One of the greatest players ever and still people don't know who you're talking about unless you prefix his name with the word "fat"

Jay Jay Okocha would have been a super star if he'd have played for Man Utd instead of Bolton.

Cantona. Quite simply the best player I've ever seen, despite him playing for the shit.

I often wonder....just HOW GOOD was George Best?? I'd put him in the top list already, but I thought about mentioning Alan Hudson. Jay Jay Okocha would have been a super star if he'd have played for Man Utd instead of Bolton. Another one I thought about mentioning.

I often wonder....just HOW GOOD was George Best?? I was fortunate to have seen him play in the flesh on several occasions when we played Manure at the Vic. For me he was the best ever alongside Pele. There was no limits on what he could have achieved, and believe you me, he played in an age when defenders would defend however they could, and no prisoners were taken! Always a bit difficult to compare across the ages, but this doesn't effect talent. On today's pitches, and with how players are protected nowadays, you would need two balls in every game he played, because no one would have got the ball off him!
