£7M apparently. Surely now there is an opportunity for Stoke (or Boro) to sign Vydra.
One thing the recent friendlies have taught us is that the goal issue needs to be resolved asap.

It is getting the ball to someone who can score that is the problem.

We really need a decent forward thinking centre midfielder to play with Ndiaye and Etebo so we don't have this chasm between forward/winger and midfield.
Another striker is important once we even have one who can score.

What happened to this Afobe fella we signed from Bournemouth or Wolves I was never sure which ? Has he featured much in pre-season, I've hardly heard mention of him? Might he be the answer or at least a part of it?

Played on the left at Walsall, played up front in most of the friendlies but has been isolated in the system we've played and doesn't look entirely fit yet. Tweaked his back against Wolves and didn't feature against St Pauli.

Bamford's an ok signing at this level; a little surprised to see that TP would let him go.

Yes, it was somewhat a rhetorical question, conventional wisdom on here seems to be he will be a l goal every 2 games man, if we can somehow tease him to the start line. But isolated, unfit and now he's tweaked his back is not quite the start we were hoping for

I guess we expected to lose B'doo (which still might happen) but if he stays then him and Etebo look to be streets ahead of Allen.

Really don’t know why we didn’t go for Bamford. An excellent player at this level and would be a good alternative to Afobe. Comes from a nice family in Nottinghamshire so would be a really easy commute from his roots. Transfer tossers strike again!

Regarding Eastmids comment on Bamford, he IMHO is not a Pulis type player. The comment nice family, ( mentioned), gives it away! He didn't appear a nasty enough player for him!

Perhaps he does to a limited extent, maybe he has 100% of the say. What we do know is we’ve been pretty horrendous in the transfer market for a number of seasons now and we’re heading in to the new season quite undercooked as things stand with 1 week of the window left.

Played plenty for him last season though, and scored 10 goals for him. His flexibility in being able to play LW would have been up TP's street as well I'd have thought. Perhaps he's got his eye on another striker? Or maybe he's got to balance the books somehow after spending on Flint and McNair?

Carto and Scholes clearly have been up to their usual bungling tricks which is why we havent got enough players in. That said, why doesnt Rowett want Bamford? We need a striker and he’s a quality player at this level. January repeating itself all over again...

To a point it's their fault, absolutely, but if, say Ritchie was our top target, there wasn't much we could do beyond keep plugging away or moving on, which we ultimately did. Who knows if that's the case for other targets? Presumably Rowett doesn't see Bamford as a striker who'll fit into his system. I don't think we've moved especially slower or differently to the majority of clubs in the top two divisions, most of whom appear to be expressing similar frustrations, especially with the window closing early. It may well one of those windows where certain players only become available right at the end of the window when the chain effect kicks in.

At least we have Afobe, Diouf, Berahino, Crouch as options to occupy 1 position. Much better off in that area compared to centre half with just Shawcross and BMI, left back with just Pieters, defensive midfield with Fletcher. Get at least £20m for Badou and invest it into 3/4 versatile reasonably aged players.
