Never worked in a hotel, but good luck!

I think you are required to service the single older ladies during the night, especially if they want more G&Ts

just walk in to your boss's office and get your face in her hairy growler and tell her you hired yourself
you will soon get used to having pubes in your teeth

I’m be worked in hotels and still in the hospitality gam.
Depends what service the George hotel requires a porter will normally help with baggage to the room, take drinks, welcome guests, direct them to check in etc... you will see some sights.
Make sure you have a top pocket for tips.
And take some condoms to sell gents will ask for some

Used to be a doddle , in the old days lots of cash business in the night for booze and sandwiches. Many of the old boys would have their own stock of booze in their lockers and would make a nice living , selling beer and club sandwiches . I suspect they have better controls these days

Got a 1 hour trial at George Hotel in Burslem for an overnight hotel porter position. Never done anything with hotels before, anyone got any advice? The woman interviewing me told me over the past year there's been a lot more weirdos in Burslem than usual. Thought that might bring a smile to the faces of the Oatcake There's more weirdos in burslem because she puts them up in the hotel. All kinds of undesirables live there.all paid for by our lovely council. I bet it's a night porter job? Keep away from the place mate.

This is what's on Indeed page and what was described to me
Main duties will involve:
Ensure all access to the hotel is secure
Do any related security duties as required overnight
Looking after guests
Being welcoming
Providing overnight bar service
Set up rooms for functions, meeting and dinners
General housekeeping
-------------------------
I was more just a little bit curious of what kind of things I can be expecting in a 1 hour trial, it's quite a short thing to me like 30 min of that will be a walk around the hotel I'd have thought?

The closest I ever came to a job like that was back when I was banging a chamber maid from the Moat House on Festival Park, so the only advice I can give is this. I don't know if it's still there, but there used to be a sandwich shop on Nile St, right next to the George, called 'Take A Break'. If it's there then trust me, give it a shot. The woman who ran/owned it was a proper flirty MILF too.

I've just read through the TripAdvisor reviews haha, more one star reviews than anything else in the past 8 years. Well, on one hand it could be and probably is dreadful on the other hand maybe standards are so low that I can get the job easily! Must have applied for 200 jobs in the past 3 months

Incomparable to whom? I made the point that it doesn't mean exactly the same thing as in Britain just like middle class America is far removed from middle class Britain. If you're really interested this might help: www.google.co.uk

Well done for getting the interview, sounds like you’ve put a lot of legwork into getting back into the job market
I agree, a one hour interview is a new one on me, I’m guessing they’re just sizing your personality up, see if you fit the role etc There’s not much that can go wrong in an hour if you turn up smart and keen and show willing
I’ve not done any hotel work but stayed in plenty as I travel for a living What always impresses me with any front of house staff ;-
Those that genuinely pay attention to you when you come in , ie not on their phones/chatting to the other staff Those that genuinely know the area and can tell you a) where to get a good meal b) where is the nearest cash point c) points of interest
Best of luck and come back on here and tell us how it goes - it could lead to a regular ongoing cake blog “Adventures of the Night Porter”

Ask the shop owners on Nile street and they will tell you, stepping over syringes to get in your place of work each morning is not very nice. But a job is a job if you need one. Personally I'd rather skinny dip in a pool full of the mother in laws piss than work there. She eats alot of beetroot by the way.

Needs must and all that.

P.S. the hotel is like a low budget version of The Shining inside. They have a function room in the basement that is all set up with tables etc. but no one uses it, proper eery vibes as it's all paint peeling etc.
