Another tragic incident with a bouncy castle, although this time it was not caused by a gale and insufficient anchoring. A "explosion" was heard and the poor child was town into the air, and reading between the lines, she had a very bad landing. I'm trying to get my head around this one, as in my mind, if there was a split in the material, surely that would have cause a collapse rather than something that would hurl a child into the air. BBC

I would have thought that that the only way things could possibly explode would be to shove a load of highly explosive gas into one and chuck a match in. They're constantly vented.

Perhaps the hot weather contributed to an increase in pressure In the castle and it blew at the weakest point? We all remember Charles law from school V1/T1 = V2/T2 ?

Are the operators licenced? If so I would expect a prosecution for negligence.
Surely they have to be issued a safety certificate on a yearly basis also.
On a side note don't they use nitrogen in F1 tyres as it's more stable than air and expands less in extreme conditions. Is nitrogen used in the castles, if not is it a viable, safer option?
One thing seems clear childrens lives should not be at risk on a bouncy castle.

Also based on this, perhaps the venting system failed, and the inflatable blew up like a balloon.
