I'll get this thread started to ensure that Colombia is spelled correctly in the title If James Rodriguez is healthy (he went out injured in the 30th minute today), I'm going with Colombia.

I've made my feelings about Colombia abundantly clear earlier so i'll be going with an England win. Bring on Shaq in the quarters.

I've watched Colombia a fair bit the last 4 years. They are a team that, if they get their flow, they're very dangerous. But if they don't get a good flow going, they're not good
The best English tactic may actually be to hack them to pieces to cause many stoppages in play. A bonus is that some of their players don't respond well to provocation, and you could force a second yellow/red. You saw what happened when they went down to 10 men against Japan.

Colombia are good, but so are Japan and every other team left.
I didn't agree with wholesale changes and resting our first team, but when our first team has played we've looked as good (going forward at least) as anyone so far in the tournament.

It should be an easy 5-0 win after everybody seems happy at our ineptitude and defeat today.
Everyone is already looking at the quarter final and semi finals.
What could possibly go wrong?

Plenty but today was a nothing game, we played the B team and it showed, thankfully that won't be the team that starts the next one.

Its overrated, either way the momentum was lost by having to play a pointless game neither side cared about, we'll gain much better and meaningful momentum by doing well in the next two games, hopefully.

Momentum hasn't counted for much this tournament. Loads of teams have won one game and lost the next. You'd think that momentum would have been with Germany and Mexico yesterday and against South Korea and Sweden. Only 3 teams won all their group games.

I just don't get this happiness over a defeat and a game against Colombia in the next round, like it's some kind of gimme. Most are talking about the quarters and semis already. I just prefer to take it one game at a time and be positive in every one.

We will do em in a one off game , wouldn’t fancy our lot to do it in on a wet Wednesday In Medallin but one off game it’s a stroll .

Southgate made a huge mistake tonight IMO. Colombia are a dangerous side and they have players in their natural positions that will cause us problems.
Cuadradro will cause our extremely slow and cumbersome left hand side no end of bother. James plays in a position that will really occupy Henderson, or god forbid Dier. They have movement in abundance up front and they have a fair bit of mobility at the back that COULD negate our youthful pace and movement.
They are a very well balanced side and I think we are in for a game and a half. Winnable? Absolutely. Tough? Most definitely.

This is where it ends for us. They are simply better than we are.
Although last time we were the final second round game we beat Belgium. But omens are a load of crap. So we are going out in five days

I didn’t watch your last game against Belgium as it seemed to be a dead rubber.
From what I saw the previous two, you shouldn’t be overtly worried. Colombia’s defence is shaky too, but in the battle of the forwards I think you’ll be more deadly and accurate. Kane will be wanting to prove that he shouldn’t have been dropped and it just seems to drop for him at the moment.
I think you may win this 2-1 or 3-1.

Momentum is an intangible though. It’s not something you think about while you’ve got it. But it counts for a lot. So the starting 11 will have momentum as most of their last game they won 6-1 That isn't how it works. Some of them have now been involved in a defeat, the others won't have played for 8-9 days, which is a long time in tournament football.

I agree with this line of thinking.
Neville has often pointed to our players blowing up in the QF due to lack of rotation.
I think stuff like 'momentum' is retrofitted onto narratives after the event, just like 'clever resting' will be retrofitted onto the story if the Colombia game goes well.
It's probably all bollocks.
