Bringing this to the top. Because if they had lost following a 2 goal lead with 10 minutes to go, then it certainly would be at the top of the page!

match report from my spy: Stoke were lucky Weds were all breathing out of their arses by 75 minutes Stoke won because of superior fitness also: concerned by change from playing through the thirds earlier in the season to lumping it quickly to two big fowards great that we have won (against a good side at that level/age group) is that the best way to develop young players?

It seems with the majority of the players signed for the U18s / 16s sides that have joined them age groups and have not been at the club from an earlier age seem to resemble a more direct style and haven't been recruited based on technique but physical qualities. Akandji + Doucoure from Amiens are physically dominant. Especially Akandji who is a man mountain. The newest recruit for the u16s, Sankoh, from Sparta Rotterdam also is physically superior for his age.

Impression is that circumstances (injuries) saw a change to 442 with two big strikers. Two big strikers encouraged the big limp up field, results have come and the coaches like winning. However as I say winning isn't the main thing, development of players is. Having a winning mentality is part of that development but not at the expense of everything else.

Exactly, both go hand in hand. Pick the physically developed players and you'll tend to take advantage of this. If a young players is performing well because of his physical attributes he isn't developing the technical elements which will improve him in the long term. IF, these players are recruited based on this then it's slightly concerning. But, these players should be playing against older players who have similar physical traits. Strange because the u16s and below have really good technical players who are always physically 'weaker' than their opponents.

That's probably the strongest line up the U23's have put out for a long time.

4 of that starting 11 should be getting 20+ starts in League 1.

4 of that starting 11 should be getting 20+ starts in League 1. Several will be going out in loan. U18 players will be stepping up. Told scoreline flattered Villa. 6.9 to Stoke would have been fair.

Tyrese was hobbling at the end, a hard 50/50 tackle in the first half appeared to sting him abit. Hopefully nothing long term but think he'll be aching in the morning..
Some old Stoke connections in the stand this eve, saw John Rudge & Noel Blake watching on. Had to Google Blake to see what he's doing these days as thought he was still with the England youth set up. Hadn't realised he suffered a stroke in 2015..
All of Villa's management & backroom staff were in attendance including their recently appointed keeper coach Neil Cutler.

Blake is an agent now, some of the young Stoke players are in his books
