This time of the year is here once again! Pete Smith has released article about the new intake for the U-18s. It's a good read! www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-gary-rowett-youngsters-1723198?000Last year really was a good year for the academy with so many players being given a chance and with Edwards and Sorenson looking at home and Campbell still with the time to get there. The U-18s did really well in the league last season and I hope that will continue to happen as they are a talented group by all accounts. U18 SquadGK - Josef BursikGK - Nathan Broome DF - Max Murphy DF - Nathan Collins DF - William ForresterDF - James Butler DF - Scott WaraDF - Lewis Macari DF - Mohamed Akandji DF - Kieran Coates MF - Joel Kaduba MF - Ethan StantonMF - Adam Porter MF - Dan Malone MF - Pat Jarrett MF - Soiyir Sanali MF - Ibrahim Doucoure WG - Abdoulaye ToureWG - Reece Jones FW - James JenningsFW - Dillon Keane FW - Ethan Varian First Year Second YearThird YeardI have no idea where Reece Jones; Kieran Coates; Ibrahim Doucoure, Mohamed Akandji and Soiyi Sanali so if anyone does know shout up! It's looking a good squad though with plenty of room for younger players to step up. I think Bursik, Collins and Forrester will play a lot of their football at an U-23 level this season. This is the American lad we've signed; We know from last year that Shola Ayoola, Lewis Banks, Ryan Hill, Eddy Lecygne and Luis Da Silva were released after their contracts expired from the U-23 squad. Jake Dunwoody, Daniel Gyollai and Daniel Jarvis had theirs extended with contract offers for Mark Waddington and Dom Telford. There was no mention of the following second years in the retained list, so I can only presume they have pro deals anyway and will be in the U-23 squad. They are Mate Deczki, Mohamed Diallo, Vazoumana Karamoko, Lasse Sorenson, Rachid Balde and Kris Szereto. What we do know is that Jake Twyford was offered a pro-deal. And James Butler and Scott Wara were only offered third year scholarships. U23 SquadGK-Daniel Gyollai GK-Mate Deczki RB-Tom Edwards RB-Tre Pemberton RB-Sim Thandi CB-Harry Souttar CB-Ryan Sweeney - on loan at Mansfield FB-Mohamed Diallo FB-Vazoumana Karamoko LB/LW- Cameron McJannett - on loan at Curzon Ashton LB - Moussa Niakate DM-Jake Dunwoody DM-Lasse Sorenson DM-Rachid Balde CM-Mark Waddington CM- Danny Jarvis CM-Oliver Shenton CM/AMC-Jake Twyford WG-Thibaud Verlinden WG-Moha Signed for Badalona WG-Kris Szereto ST-Dom Telford Signed for Bury ST- Julien N'Goy ST-Tyrese Campbell ST-Gabriel Kyeremateng A few of these may have left and a few may be in the first team squad next season officially but I don't yet so I will include them here. And it's presuming that Telford and Waddington have signed their deals. And a few of them will be looking to go out on loan again. If I've missed anything please say! oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/269391/stoke-city-academy-development-thread

I'm hoping that we get at least to see more of Edwards and Sorensen around the first team this year.

Time for Verlinden to show what heโs got this season.

Do we know who will be taking the under 18's etc. Didn't Richard Walker have a successful back end of the season?. Is Russell still at club & in what capacity?

It says in Pete's article that he has a role at the "higher end" of the academy. So I'm guessing Walker is staying as U18s coach, which would be great and the same for Elliot with the U23s.

I hope Verlinden impresses the new manager as I had real high hopes for this kid, I still do but it's approaching crunch time.

What's Rowetts record like with youngsters does anybody know? I don't think it's great is it? Hopefully that will change as I really do think we can have a good mix with the players we have. Has anyone heard about any friendlies for the u-23s? We've got Newport County but other than that nothing has been announced.

This was why we played them in the friendly last season. We spoke to their chief Exec (he actually gave us a lift back into town from the stadium) but he said that the two clubs had set up an academy partnership. Weโd heard nothing about it from this end but at least itโs showing some production. All I remember is they had a hell of a lot of African lads playing for them. Other than that the 1664 got the better of me.

I had a wander round the training ground yesterday and the young lads were training on the new bit at the back across the road.
It looks like this is their new base so if anyone is interested you can get really close and have a good look-see.
The French lad with blonde hair is an absolute unit with a good touch. So is the keeper they were having shooting drills against.
Good to see Gareth Owen involved too.

Jarrett, Porter and Malone real stand outs in the 16's last year, look good prospects. Particularly like Jarrett who's a class number 10, takes up good positions and is very comfortable on the ball.
