Thanks for that Murph it's much appreciated. Given that our only remaining bar is closed today thanks to the road guys tearing through the water and electrics ice isn't on the menu today. Bloody better be tomorrow. This is unreal. There's a guy I've just met at the cafe who has a property here and hails from 'castle. I've got company for the game.

Imagine it never rained again. What would you do?

Ive forgotten what it's like to rain, looking at the BBC weather this week, france and germany are getting a fair bit of rain. Initially it was just thunder and lightning but now it's tipping it down. At least it's taken the edge off the heat by a couple of degrees. 9.15 here and I might just get a decent nights sleep for a change. Probably be business as usual tomorrow.

Apart from the stinking hot weather, and now the rain, have you had a good time with our froggy friends Chuffed ? Sounds like you've still managed to avoid the dread andouiβ¦.. (can't bring myself to even type the word)

View AttachmentOh the memories Spent the majority of my 30th birthday in the Gulf at sea fixing one of those bloody things, never been so hot, like working in a sauna. Got extremely pissed down the stokers mess once we were done tho

Out walking in the Moorlands this afternoon and a small cloud passed over and obscured the sun for 60 seconds. We had quite a bit of cloud appear for a couple of hours yesterday evening, then went clear again. No rain since April here, and nothing in the forecast for the next 10 days.

(can't bring myself to even type the word) Really peaceful and relaxing. I needed this. I've adopted by the lady who runs the place and has run me into the town on a couple of occasions. The bar in the village does decent beer and great food. As for the sausage word it's nowhere to be seen anywhere thank goodness.

You're a braver man than me just looking at the damn thing π My dictionary/ phrase book is a godsend. My French was never brilliant but useable. It's quite fun messing up sometimes. 8.15 cup of tea, breakfast and it's started to chuck it down again. Still 21 degrees.

Crikey, you've got a stronger stomach than I thought, Chuffed. Don't drink it myself, strictly a coffee man (after an unfortunate tea-leaves-in-the-cup-incident at my great aunt's when I was 4). Mrs Q is a leaf gulper though, and says the only country she's been to that did tea which was remotely drinkable was Kenya. First things packed for holidays are a couple of boxes of tea bags for her.
2 essential phrases for you:
Le singe et dans l'arbre (thank you Mr Izzard)
Je viens de manger andou... par erreur, oΓΉ est la toilette?

The proprietor produced a box of Yorkshire bags when he asked what I wanted at breakfast, I suspect I'm not the only brit to have stayed there!.

The proprietor produced a box of Yorkshire bags when he asked what I wanted at breakfast, I suspect I'm not the only brit to have stayed there!. You fell on your feet there. Apparently the best tea there is. At least according to a higher authority (Mrs Q). When asked what brought her to Leeds from her Suffolk origins, it was her then-boyfriend. When she ditched him, she stayed for the tea & the people. Yorkshire folks very much like Stokies with regard to friendliness & a sense of community.
I came here for Uni 35 years ago, & stayed for the tenpin bowling & beer. And because I didn't want the hassle of having to look for a job elsewhere in the country. Other than meeting the then future Mrs Q, not much has changed in 35 years. At least on the bowling, beer & apathy fronts.

My Lawn is looking a scene from the grapes of wrath, or ice cold in alex if you prefer.
I wouldn't mind but we pay some lazy arsed gardeners to keep the place looking nice, the lawn slopes directly into the river dee - so do what you're paid for and get some river water on it ffs!

Our lawn is a very, very pale shade of yellow now - not a hint of green in sight. Loads of plants have died as well - looks like a restock with drought tolerant plants is in order.

I'm planning on planting a couple of palm trees with one of those hammocks slung between, TV in the conservatory facing out with a few bluetooth speakers then train the dogs to fetch my drinks. The new music we're coming out to at the Bet 365 is this. Gonna be hot again on Friday Man
