We've had another stinking hot day in Lyme Regis. Been on the beach and 33 C again but slight breeze so a little bit more tolerable. We've driven back tonight to miss the Friday fun and games on the M5 and M6, got back about 45 minutes ago with no delays in just under 4 hours. We drove down last Friday and with accidents and 50mph sections the journey took over 6 hours. Wasn't 33 on official sources, only N.Wales got 33 yesterday I know, officially that part of Dorset and Devon only reached 31 C but the boat builders by the beach had a temperature gauge set up by their building and it was reading 33 C at about 2.15 yesterday afternoon. Whether it was 100% accurate I don't know but it was bloody hot

My cousin was, and still is the Green Party candidate for one of the Sunderland seats, and if I remember correctly he got 35 votes at the last General Election. He knows both he and the other Green Party candidates have got absolutely no chance of getting elected but they do it just to try to raise people's awareness of the issues.

The wet spring and hot spell seem to have multiplied the bloody horseflies and mozzies. I got three bites before the 3rd hole at carden park last night and spent the rest of the round fighting them off. I get a reaction to these horsefly bastards. Amazon recommends smidge to repel them - anyone used or know something better ? Staying at work we teed off at 18.45 - what time are you working till these days ? ps. are you going to germany for the pre-season ?... I can't as in Ireland., planning to go against wolves which is a poor substitute

Amazon recommends smidge to repel them - anyone used or know something better ? Used this before, seemed to keep things off me, this was before they actually labelled it as an insect repellent, I presume it's still the same stuff, Royal Marines have been using it for years. www.amazon.co.uk/Avon-Mosquito-Insect-Repellent-Original/dp/B071KFZNJ3Taking a neem capsule a day has also helped me stay more or less bite free when I've travelled to problematic areas, I'd generally start taking them a week before travelling and carry on until the end of the trip. Bugs (of all sorts) hate neem.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire. My first holiday in five years I'm in the Dordogne without a car walking into the local village in 36 degrees today. Two bars and no shop either.15 euros each way to the nearest town. I'm consuming more water than is going on the crops.

Now imagine what it's like not being able to go out and enjoy the sun and and having to wear thick, unbreathable bandages for most of the day. Welcome to my fucking life.

I don't know how accurate this will turn out to be but the BBC weather forecast said the temp would stay around 23 C tonight - making sleeping rather "uncomfortable". It'll be like trying to sleep in a sauna.

Anyway, here you are - Dordogne attractions!
Towards the end it mentions Bergerac (wine tasting) and also Monpazier, of which it says 'founded in 1284 for King Edward I of England. Much to the joy of flâneurs today who revel in the medieval symmetry of central place des Cornières and its surrounding grid of streets, the bastide was built in a quadrilateral, 500 yards long and 250 yards wide. You can’t get lost.' (Yeah, right…….. ) www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/europe/france/dordogne/articles/dordogne-attractions/

I'm in a small place called Saint Avit Senieur. It's got a colossal and beautiful abbey. Went for a look around it today and was wonderfully cool inside. There's loads of info on tinternet. Worth a quick look it really is impressive. The one and only bar bring out a telly for the football and run two cables across the road then perch it a nearby wall, I've brought a Stoke shirt with me for England's next game. That ought to scare em!!. The other bar has closed for the week.

Just be grateful you're not taking part in the Tour de France which starts next weekend, now that would be an uncomfortable cycling tour !

Did you say 'sacré bleu' when you saw it?! Well done you on taking the SCFC shirt for the England game - proud of you! It would be fantastic if Jack Butland was in goal so you could lay it on that he plays for US!

Make your way to st Emillion , one of my favourite places in France , there is a beautiful terrace where you sit and look down on the river with a glass of the local plonk . Little bit of heaven 😊

My Mrs has booked the family into a luxury tree house in Devon ( whatever that means ) at the end of July for a week so the weather will break and we will have violent thunderstorms and tropical rain storms for the whole week , I did ask her to book something that was going to be easy on my knees 😂

Sounds interesting and different, but without being the bringer of bad news I did hear someone on the Beeb mention that the good weather might last until around the 20th July and then looked likely to change ! Hopefully that just means the odd shower and a little cooler - fingers crossed for you
