10 years excellent service, captain, legend. Do players get a testimonial after 10 years still or when they are retiring? I'm sure some players have had a testimonial whilst still playing. If so, do you think he should get one now or when he retires? (That is if he ends his career with us) And who should the opposition be? Just for the fun of it I'd ask Arsenal!

Maybe it's just me but I find testimonials to be cringeworthy.
Maybe if he is here until he retires then do a charity match at the end of his final season.

I wouldn't say they are cringeworthy, I get that they are not every ones cup of tea, but for certain players,(long serving etc.) It's a nice way of the club and fans showing their appreciation. Plus I'm sure all money from testimonials usually gets donated to a charity anyway.

It should be saved for when he leaves or retires really.

I think you need to have played for a club for 10 years to qualify for a testimonial.
Historically it was because players did not get paid that much so it was a way to give them a lump sum to retire with and it was always a good send-off. I donāt think modern-day Premiership players have that problem. Some of them have used a testimonial to raise money for charity, so you have to applaud that, but as a spectacle they are a bit limp.
Having said that, I saw Banks testimonial against Man Utd where Eusebio and Bobby Charlton turned out for Stoke. That was brilliant. I have seen some shit ones as well - although I thought Wilcoās was great.
If Ryan had one Iād like to see Ramsey show up in a final act of good will to end all the nastiness from all sides - but I suspect it wouldnāt happen.

I think ALL testimonials for Premier League players in recent years have been for charity. If Ryan has one I think it should be against a select team of ALL the players we have loved to hate at Stoke in our days in the Premier League. Ramsey, Fabregas and Ronaldo would be the first 3 on my team sheet - anyone care to nominate a few more?

Wait till he retires, he should definitely have one and as opposition a club that has been ever linked with ours during Ryan's career would be West Brom although I enjoyed watching the youngsters at Wilko's.

A Ryan XI vs a Glenn Whelan XI (who also played for us across ten different seasons) would be a nice idea if the money went to a local cause + the teams were made up of players largely from the Premier League era. I can't see anything happening until Shawcross retires though. As others have said, they don't really need the money these days, but it'd still be a nice touch to celebrate two players who combined have made close to 800 apps for us (if Ryan goes for another 18 months or so). It's rare we get anyone make over 300 appearances these days. Taking a quick look the only others in the last 35 years have been Fox, Sandford and Butler. I suppose Walters could still do it if we re-signed him

Personally i believe heāll see out his career here, and if he does we should do it when he retires. I really enjoyed Wilkos and hope Ryan gets his too. As for opposition get the promotion side back and the rest made up of players heās played with over the years.

Maybe it's just me but I find testimonials to be cringeworthy. Maybe if he is here until he retires then do a charity match at the end of his final season. I'm pretty sure these days all testimonials are charity matches. Wayne Rooney's testimonial raised Ā£1.2 million for charity. Ryan deserves a testimonial when he wants it, whether that's before or after he retires - or never if he prefers not to have one.
