Having caught up with a few foreign sites in Spain and Portugal it seems he can happily play in a 4231. With his athleticism getting up and down playing much higher up the pitch than in a holding role. Even wide occasionally.
The one thing seems certain GR likes to play with a 4 at the back and I expect us to start that way. His mantra being "keep it simple" perhaps later in the season when we have gelled risking a 3 occasionally.
I'd guess Afobe up top then playing some tunes on the wide players. If Allen stays I think he'll sit.
I'd assume we need some cover for Ryan in case his back goes so Curtis Davies or someone of his ilk.
If we do get a winger instead of Shaq and we still want someone like Gayle.
We are going to need to shift at least one or two of Charlie, Fletcher and Cameron. Shift at least one or two of Sohbi, Imbula or Bojan even assuming Badou goes.
Shift at least one or two of Crouch, Diouf or Berahino.
1st XI Jack (or new) 4 {Bauer Shawcross BMI Peters} 2 {Allen Badou (or New)} 3 {New Etebo Gayle} 1 {Afobe}
2nd String Grant Edwards Cameron Davies type Erik cover Charlie Imbula Sorensen Diouf Bojan Berahino Crouch or Campbell

Not the signing that I was hoping for, if he’s another Imbula then it has to be the end for Cartwright and co. I wonder how much input Rowett had? 5 years too? Still not learning our lessons on these transfer sagas, I hope he does well but I can’t hide how disappointed this signing makes me, I was hoping we had changed but it doesn’t look like it Nice try Pal. Pop yourself back to Vale Park now, like a good lad. SGS

Not really he's just the furthest midfielder and Gayle will sit behind Afobe and not play on any side we won't play 2 up top side by side. They just all sit in front of the 2. See Derby last year.

He sounds like another Joe Allen. My thoughts exactly. Maybe the club have accepted an offer for Allen

His wiki entry is just hilarious, it reads like it has been written by either his #1 fan or his own mother! "Having almost single-handedly guaranteed Nigeria's qualification to the Olympic games..." And so it goes on

In his one in one interview Rowett was pretty clear that his prefered formation is 4-3-3 although he will mix it up if needed

Also can't see Gayle joining us to play out wide.

I wonder if Victor Moses gave a good account of the club to Peter? I assume they will have been spending a lot of time together recently in preparation for the World Cup.
Maybe even Odem has given some top feedback?

I wonder if you could walk with 2 left feet, or would you just go in circles ? Spend a fortune in shoes We had a player in the 60/70s named Alex Elder. I always remember my dad saying he had two left feet. I was only little, so thought he meant it literally. Good player, only problem was he had legs the size of tree trunks and an arse the size of a small country. But he could tackle and play football.

The club apparently think with their head, not their heart! Don't cut off your nose to spite your face etc etc? On a positive note, can we refer, in future, to 'WHEN' we get back not 'IF' Not sure about that mate. It'd be terrible for team morale ... just imagine the look on Joe Allen's face, when he's pledged himself to the cause, only to be told that N'diaye doesn't fancy playing in the Championship, so he's going out on loan but if Joe and the boys can get us back up, then he'll come back. Interesting perspective. Equally, consider, Badou likes Stoke and believes the club’s intent to return quickly. Club like Badou’s progressive development and contribution - so they come to an agreement. Agent, agrees and provides a replacement. Meanwhile, “lovely boy” Joe, also enjoys being at Stoke, feels personal responsibility to make things right, and decides that if he get’s a replacement deal, why bother shifting location, particularly given that Swansea are in the second tier as well - and he also believes the club’s intent. Only a £25m bid would scupper that.

It's fucking weird seeing fans of long time under achievers like Leeds or Sheff United moaning about us spending all this money. It's fucking peanuts! We don't bat an eyelid at signing shit for 18m! To be fair to them it was us saying the same over 10 years ago. It's a long time out of the top division and you soon (worryingly) get used to shelling away 15M+ on garbage when you've been in it for 10 years. Yup. It's bloody weird seeing Stoke swinging their bollocks around and acting like the big dogs for a change.
