I love the World Cup- have a bet most days during the tournament to make it interesting, as well as a few ante-posts.
Started looking at the form and reading a few previews etc.
What are everyone's tips so far? I can't see past the first four in the betting for the overall winner. The question is, which one of them will it be? Brazil with Neymar back look very tasty, Spain are almost back to their best, Germany never fail to show up in a tournament and France man-for-man are as good as anyone.
First couple of days are tricky from a betting perspective.
Russia aren't very good but are facing one of the weaker teams in Saudi Arabia. I'm in absolutely no rush to back them at 2/5 though. In the last 18 months they've lost at home to Ivory Coast and Costa Rica and drawn against Iran. They'll probably just about do it, but if I'm backing a team at that price I'd want to be home and hosed by the hour mark and I don't think Russia necessarily will be.
Egypt and Uruguay's an interesting one. Egypt without Salah probably can't win this game, but they looked solid in a 0-0 v Colombia and seem hard to score against. Uruguay's recent record isn't that great, and I think the bookies might be going a bit too short on Suarez and co at 8/13. Backing the draw might be the way to go in this one as opening games are usually very cagey anyway.
Spain against Portugal is the standout game on the Friday. Spain are the better team but can sometimes chuck games away against decent opposition- like failing to beat Switzerland for example, where they had countless shots but couldn't finish the Swiss off. They don't tend to lose many though. I'm tempted to stick a Spain draw no bet selection in with something else rather than back them to win at 10/11.
I won't lose too much sleep over missing Iran v Morocco and I think it's going to be as boring as you'd imagine. Iran are tough to break down, so are Morocco. Not looked at the prices yet but a bet based around there not being many goals would be my pick.

I still fancy Spain to win it (although they weren't very good last night)
Seen a few people saying Morocco are a good bet to finish second in Group B as well, ahead of Portugal
And there seems to be quite a strong feeling that Argentina aren't sure to get out of their group either.

Safe to say can now expect an outsider to win it, Egypt and Russia both to stroll home with opening 4-0 wins, Portugal to spring an upset ovet Spain and Iran v Morocco to be a 7 goal thriller...cheers TDog 👍👍👍

Morocco are definitely a strong side- probably the best of the African nations I think. 4/1 to qualify, which is a big price. Portugal are probably better than them, but not that much better.

I never seem to do very well on The World Cup. Still doesn't stop me having a go though...it wouldn't be the same without it!

A non favourite group winner is worth a punt.

Iran to be the lowest scoring team 12/1
That’s my main bet. Iran didn’t score many in qualifying against much poorer sides and I can’t see them scoring against Spain or Portugal and Morocco should be a tight, low scoring game. Only a complete change in philosophy, should just making it to the finals be enough and now letting the players have a go at making some history, will change anything.
Other bets include permed forecasts for the groups with duel forecast and group winner accas. I also can’t see past the main lot so have had a small bet on a Brazil/Germany final.

I wouldn't disagree re:Iran. Only problem is you tend to end up in a dead-heat with that kind of bet as quite a few teams will probably end the tournament with 1 goal.

Mexico are 33/1 with bet365 for lowest scorers. Germany, Sweden and South Korea. Worth a quid. And yeah, dual forecast acca. Silly odds and not actually that unlikely. Although I have got Russia, Portugal, Denmark, Croatia, Switzerland, Serbia, Mexico and Sweden all going out at the group stage. Still: an unseemly 60,000/1.

Some good offers flying about already from some of the top firms. Most you can guarantee a small profit from by using an exchange and laying off your selections.
B365 - Early payout if your selection goes 2 goals ahead in a game. Hills - Bet £10 on the outright market and receive a free £5 every time your selected team wins. Hills - Bet £10 on the top goal scorer and get a £5 free bet for every goal your selected player scores Skybet - £10 risk free bet on the outright market. Get £10 as a free bet when your team is eliminated.
Those are just a few of the most appealing ones so far. No doubt there’ll be more as we get closer.

I've had Peru to make the quarters at 12/1 and the semis at 50/1 (massive outsider) There's always one shock team and they're unbeaten in 14

Augero 33/1 on some sites as top goal scorer mostly 25/1 on the others this could be worth a punt

I wonder if Russia (who need to progress for the tournament's sake) might get some assistance from refs to win the group? I might have a treble on Portugal Russia and Senegal to win their groups. 45-1.
B365 are refunding if you bet on an outright win and the team go out on pennos.

Peru to qualify from Group C at 2/1 looks a great bet.
Not much between them and Denmark, but Peru have beaten some decent(ish) sides in friendlies: Iceland, Croatia and erm Scotland, and have drawn with Sweden 0-0.
Denmark drew with Sweden too and have a similar record to Peru against the competent, mid-ranking European sides.
Therefore, I can't work out why Denmark are 5/6 to qualify and Peru are 2/1 other than the fact that punters are going to be more familiar with Denmark's players- particularly Eriksen- and will therefore assume they're better as a whole?

Completely swerved today's game- didn't see that result coming at all to be honest. Was it a case of Russia being good or the Saudis awful?
Morocco to beat Iran 13/10 is my tip for tomorrow. The more I read about Morocco the more it sounds like they've got a good chance of being the shock qualifiers of the first round.
