Maybe a good player, but not for 16m £! Agreed. Would put him about 8m myself. Would prefer Vydra as out #1 signing, and can't imagine we'd afford both with 10 players to buy and a likely budget of about 30m-40m....

Don’t know why you continue you whinge about this when you knew all along that we were signing BMI anyway? Because he should have been in the building for the first day of pre season. Him not being here fast played a huge part in us going down for me. Him and Shawcross are a great partnership and the board completely fucked it up. You don’t know the ins and outs of that deal, your constantly asking about it on the basis of a throwaway comment made on Radio Stoke.

Given that he spent pretty much the whole season injured or playing with an injury, it is pretty hard to argue against that. And all over what? Tony Scholes' pride? Mmm...the same reason we got a hard on over berahino?

And again, if your sources were telling you the deal was already done then why the constant whinging about it?

No I said he was always going to sign not that it was done. It’s quite clear to me. We had an agreement with Porto but not with the player. The deal was delayed because he wanted to see what other options were out there, which is fair enough.

Scholes is fucked on that way. He didn’t just say it once either. There was a poster who evidenced all the times he said it wouldn’t be a problem. Turns out it was and fucked our pre season. Then he re-wrote history and blamed It all on Hughes...

Butland to wolves!!!!!!! Never in this wide world. Why? They're bigger than us and have bigger ambitions. People on here mocked when they were expanding their ground... now it's not big enough. Meanwhile we've put 1200 on the capacity in 10 years. Probably because of this tbf......

I don't think the two are mutually exclusive mate. You can think Carto and Scholes are jokers who need to be booted out of the club yesterday while still thinking that some things are fairly unavoidable and there wasn't much we could do. How many clubs have sell-on clauses for 28 year olds? Why would Sevilla or anyone pay more for Nzonzi when they could sit tight and get him for nowt in a year? The Shaqiri thing is frustrating but can you imagine the outcry on here if we'd not signed Shaqiri because we insisted on a higher relegation release clause? 'Typical small-time Stoke, already planning for relegation'. It doesn't really work like that though does it? There have been a series of failures over a number of years and people are desperate to make excuses for them in a way they don't for football managers. Two people have rightly paid the price for failings on the pitch with their jobs, the fact that nobody has paid the same price behind the scenes for the catastrophes off it is nothing short of a scandal. We are club where there are no consequences, no accountability and no responsibility and supporters are complicit in letting that culture spread. Maybe they've also been held accountable for our longest run in the top flight since the 70's? The fact that outside the big 7 clubs the longest run in the premier league now stands at 7 years tells you all you need to know, it's by no means a given that you can just stay in the PL ticking along forever. 10 years is a good run for a mid table club. Some of the things you seem to want to blame them for are absolutely fanciful. Nzonzi didn't want to sign a new contract and was a notoriusly sulky character at best, why would we keep a player who would inevitably be unhappy and then leave for nothing, when we could get some money in for him and allow him a move which was clearly a step up in his career? Shaqiri, you, of all people, would have been fucking apoplectic if it had been revealed we missed out on shaqiri over a relegation clause. Mistakes have been made and i would tend to agree there has been in ingrained conservatism bordering on stagnation in our dealings over the last few years which has cost us. But that comes from the top, like everyone else, Scholes works to the budget he's been set. Those constraints are set by the man with the purse strings, not him. I agree that it almost certainly requires a change behind the scenes but it's far to simplistic to blame any indiviual there for the failings on the pitch.

Apart from Vydra I am finding the types of player we are being linked with (Rowetts type?) deeply concerning...

I suppose, but there is more than one way to skin a cat. We have gone for Pulis mkII. I cannot help feeling that the board have appointed Rowett with a mind on consolidating us in this league - to get promoted from it would be a bonus but is not the priority.

The dong is out
Gary Rowett is ready to spend £12 million on Wolves striker Benik Afobe and is battling Cardiff to sign James McClean.
Rowett, the new Stoke manager, has launched bids to sign the two players as he begins rebuilding the squad for the Championship.
Afobe completed a £10m move to Wolves last Friday but it is understood that Nuno Espirito Santo is prepared to already offload him if he can make a profit.
The surprise move has been given the seal of approval by Stoke’s board and talks are already underway with Wolves over a deal which could reach up to £12m.
Afobe completed a permanent move to Molineux from Bournemouth last week after impressing on loan in the second half of the season.

Hopefully he won't be the only striker we sign if he does come to Stoke, not exactly prolific, but a decent option.

So Percy has the fee they paid Bournemouth at around £10m.
And the fee he'd cost us as "up to "£12m"
So any profit for Wolves would be smallish, but worthwhile from their point of view.
