average points between relegation and promotion? 47.2 is the average number of points needed to survive in the Championship 86.1 is the average number of points needed for 2nd place and automatic promotion I think that is what you said?! So I suppose 50 is the new Pulis 40 in the Championship, the total needed to be super safe! And really 90 needed to guarantee automatic promotion.

WOW, I thought 47.2 was maybe too high as an average, as this year was 41 I think. We need get some points on the board fast

Most managers in Championship use 53 as a target to virtually guarantee staying up.

We were lucky to be promoted with 79. It was a strange league that year. West Brom won it with 81!
Is the 47.2 the amount gained on average by the team in 21st, or is it 0.1 higher than the average gained by the team in 22nd? The latter would be a truer measure of what’s needed to survive.

That was a strange season to be fair - anyone could beat anyone else. Didnt Leicester go down with about 54 points too?

The contrast in fortunes since then between them and Coventry (who just avoided relegation) though is quite shocking. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007%E2%80%9308_Football_League#League_Championship
