Are SLP hinting there's something in the story?
It's from 6 weeks ago, pre-Rowett.

Man Utd are set to offer him a new contract apparently, I think he'd be very hard to acquire permanently. Another loan move is definitely a possibility though you'd think. He performed very well today, Rotherham were the better side throughout and at times he kept the Shrews in the game, especially the stunning save he made to his right with five minutes to go. Worth an enquiry I'd say, I think Man Utd will want him at a Championship club at least.

If our goalkeeping coach is as good as everyone says this should give Stoke the advantage for a loan?

I can't say I like the idea of a 21 year-old goalkeeper in our first season back in the Champ

I can't say I like the idea of a 21 year-old goalkeeper in our first season back in the Champ I agree. I have seen him play 6 or 7 times last season. If we were signing him on a permanent deal I would be ok with that, but a loan to ourselves and then he goes back to Man Utd wouldn't suit us I don't think
He is still young and as good as he is I would sign someone else if you couldn't get him permanently...……...Only my opinion

After getting a full season in the Championship behind him Sam Johnstone might be the better option of the two?

Yup because Angus Gunn and Johnstone were a real hinderance for their clubs last year Wiki has Sam Johnstone down as 25 if that's who you meant. Angus Gunn is 22 so perhaps a better example, did he do well at Norwich then I'm not sure, he shipped a few goals?

Butland was only 22/23 when he had that absolutely storming season for us wasn't he?

Don’t really know if I’m honest but a fair bit of clamour on here for him so possibly? Didn’t realise Johnstone was that old, that’s a poor example.

Butland was only 22/23 when he had that absolutely storming season for us wasn't he? Yes he was, mostly 22 and a little bit of 23 at the end. Perhaps you're right then folks. If Henderson was able to reproduce anything like Jack's form of 2015/16 we'd have a winner on our hands. I just always have this feeling with goalkeepers that as a rule, for whatever reason, they peak later than outfield players.

It's not that young keepers can't be good, it's just to do with our particular circumstances. There are times and places to bring in a young inexperienced keeper and blood him in the first team... a season which could be our best chance to get back up for years and when it's absolutely crucial we get as much as possible right isn't one of them imo.
