He says that teams in the champions league, could play league games with 6 u21/u23's. Great idea, then no club who is in the champions league will qualify for next season, giving more teams a chance Don't think he thought that one through.

“But it’s brainstorming because there isn’t a project at the moment.” Seems so well thought out He seems like he can't wait to get rid of any club that isn't considered elite.

How about they have NO domestic games rather than less. Fuck them off and never let them or anyone who plays for them play in any FA, UEFA, or FIFA competition again. This situation is caused utterly and completely by fickle, feckless, and spineless gloryhunters who have made the big clubs far too big, far too elite and have created the greed and nonsense we see now. The cancer of football they will destroy us all. BM

They’ve made football a closed shop. It really is time we threw the key away and cut them adrift. They get to keep all the money, we get our sport back.

They should expand the top division to 24 teams, bring back big marathon cup replays and reduce the length of the international break to one day, so that internationals have to play two games in a row. Also, three domestic trophies isn't enough, so a new cup should be established in which every team has to play every single other team in the Football League three times per season.

English football is isolated from this as an issue really. Elite English clubs will go where the money is BUT unlike other leagues there is plenty of money in the domestic game.
So it isn't necessary to pursue it for the cash.

So it isn't necessary to pursue it for the cash. that is true as things stand, though the offers that could come in for a Euro super League participation could start to exceed revenue from the Domestic game. I think our top teams will want it both ways and will start playing 'weakened' teams for all domestic games apart from the big matches. that is already happening to some extent. Of course these weakened teams will be stronger than teams like Huddersfield and Stoke anyway because the Man Utd's of this world will cream off the best players anyway because of their economic clout.

This is why it is critical not to malinger in the championship for long.
We need to be in the right place at the right time when the league inevitably restructures.
As for wishing the Big 6 gone for ever to play with Barca, Bayern, Real, PSG and Juve and the rest it would be a sad day, accepting that in country terms we are a 2nd flight domestic team, forever.

A European Super League has got to happen imho.
Wouldn't interest me one iota but when we do get back to the Premier League at least it would be a bit more competitive.

It might not be if our Top 5 or 6 decide to compete in both, effectively playing their B teams (will be rebranded as something more sexy I'm sure) in the Premiership which could happen. Bearing in mind their B teams could have players like Arnie, Shaq etc in them i.e the best Prem players who are not quite good enough for the Super League First XI alongside all of the best up and coming players. Lets face it they will have the resources.

The premier league has played a massive part in making the English 'elite' teams, elite. If they get their way they will be off playing European games all year, using the other riff raff teams as friendlies and feeder clubs and not caring that TV revenue is falling off because more people is Asia and America want to watch arsenal than Huddersfield.
Think there's a financial gap between top and bottom of the premier league now.... there'd be a far bigger gap between European league and premier league. I wouldn't be surprised to see 'B' teams competing in top domestic league so the club's can justify mopping up all young talent.

It will be a while off yet. How many Prem sides would get into that league? or sides from other leagues? There will be plenty of huge clubs blocking this if they feel they won't get in directly.... you could imagine that a couple of clubs like Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea might not qualify. I doubt they'll allow the top 6 or 7 Prem sides into this league. You'll have the top 4 or 5 leagues all disagreeing on how many of their teams get in.

There’d be no premiership in its current format if the 6/7 major clubs departed The money and sponsorship would immediately dry up It’s those who in reality the sponsors pay for as the rest just make up the numbers

Therefore they will be able satisfy all their existing markets and increase them in the process. Just in the same way that they now treat the FA Cup, thats how they will approach the Prem. They play reserves in Cup competitions and still win the Trophies!

Fuck them all off imho, but once it’s set up bring in a rule disqualifying all players who participate from playing in FA ruled games again. Will never happen but I can dream. This is exactly why I gave up on the premier, football has always been a competition, the premier league is so far removed from that it’s basically 38 friendlies

i've been moaning about the inevitability of this for years to anyone near me
the shift towards it happens by stealth, first with the media playing their part like good little lapdogs, and then by the introduction of major 'friendlies' abroad.
it'll be here before you know it.

Take Man United, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs out of the Premier League and the media rights money will be at Championship level, £6m per year rather than £100m. Sky TV licences are not being sold in their millions around South East Asia to watch Burnley and Bournemouth. If the Big 6 clear off then the media money game is well and truly up for the rest of us. Essentially we were bottom feeders in the Prem. Whether that bothers you or not I suppose is dependent upon whether you want to see the big stars or if you are happy to watch some worthy but limited journeymen players.

I wouldn't be surprised to see 'B' teams competing in top domestic league so the club's can justify mopping up all young talent. It's not even America. It's pretty much entirely Asia: India, China, the Middle East etc. The Premier League is massive over there now. It's really huge. A global product. I was talking to a friend at work the other day, who was talking about a documentary he watched. They were interviewing a little Middle Eastern child who had such a limited knowledge of the world, he barely knew his head from his arse because he had been so sheltered, but he had heard of Manchester United. The problem is, when money rules (and it always does) it's the fans who get shit on the most. The suits at the PL aren't wondering whether 'sheffield_stokie' can get his match ticket at a fair equitable price.... they're wondering the next best way to market the fuck out of this lucrative product that has already made them filthy rich. Even the cap on away day tickets turned out to be a watered down pile of shit, which has probably resulted in next to zero savings for most of us regular away followers. The local fans are a ballache, trust me. It's all about turning football into a corporate product with a corporate identity. "Bring your business conference to Old Trafford and while you're at it, if you look left, there's also a football match going on for a bit of light entertainment that we occasionally provide. No charge." Football, at least at the top of the food chain, hasn't been about kicking a bag of wind around for a long time. The PL was probably the start, but also the attempted takeover of Man Utd by Sky in the 90's (remember that?) really was in an insight into the future. Sky planned to build a super team, 'Team Sky' and were supposedly willing to invest billions to do so. I have a feeling they knew what was coming. Now, teams like that are ten a penny.

Isnt there an obvious answer for these elite clubs to double their squad depth and compete on both domestic and european levels?
They are already hogging all of the talent so a few more games in Europe with bucketloads of cash gives them a reason to have 2 maybe completely separate squads.

They don't realise what will invariably happen though.
You can create a super-league, a super set-up of the best teams. But there can still only be a handful of top teams. So instead of it being a Stoke, a West Brom, a Southampton etc who are dining at the table and the bigger clubs feel they're unworthy its a Dortmund, its a Liverpool, its a Juventus. Eventually they just become the best of the rest, unable to compete and just become the also-rans of that new competition for years and years until someone external comes and puts money in.
Plus who decides when the snapshot is? 10 years ago Man City and Tottenham would've been laughed out the building if they wanted to join in with this. Newcastle could have been in it at one time, a little earlier and Leeds/Villa would have been.
A cup like the champions league works because you get the good teams of each year who have proven themselves participating. It becomes a whole lot less interesting once whipping boys are formed and there's no movement in the super competition so it just becomes stagnant. You need a US draft style system to make fixed leagues work, because anything left down to the "market" as it were, where players can pick and choose who to sign for etc means it only ends one way.

And take all this crap “marketing” naming conventions with you. Premiership, championship etc. For those in, league one...... you got to be kidding you are not in the first division, you’re in the bloody third division you fools! I actually think that Each of the “elite” teams should form a new club. Call it what you will. “Manchester United Elites” or whatever. This will be an entirely separate club and can join whatever league they bloody want to, but, their players are their players and cannot play for Manchester United in the Premiership. All loan and transfer rules will be strictly enforced and no team can loan a player from an “Elite “ team.

What would be the definition of elite? How about having won your domestic league in the last three years?
Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs might not be so keen on the idea then.
I think by “élite” they are probably thinking “rich”.
