4-4-1-1
Normally plays a smaller striker in the No 10 role behind a bigger, mobile brute.

Good article from 2017 on his philosophy here. Here's a snippet from it: It seems the most exciting and vaunted managers in the world today are defined by a strict adherence to a certain formation or play style – a 3-4-3 here, a high-intensity pressing game there. While this approach has certainly been beneficial for managers like Mauricio Pochettino and Markus Weinzierl, Gary Rowett is a brand of manager more defined by his flexibility. Rowett does not have a “preferred” formation – not at this early stage of his career anyway. What Rowett does is much less formulaic, instead analysing his pieces and deciding on the best way to utilise them. The key is masking their weaknesses, but exalting their strengths.outsideoftheboot.com/2017/03/10/tactical-philosophy-gary-rowett/

Good to know he's adaptable. Could this mean the return of Bojan to play in the hole.

I’m pretty sure he was playing 3 at the back with Derby early last season. Whatever formation he goes with, let’s just hope he brings in the right players that fit his plans, unlike the absolute cluster-fuck recruitment we’ve become accustomed to over the last couple of years.

Get him fit and (importantly) feeling loved and confident again, he could do a similar (but probably not identical) job for us to the one Neves has done for Wolves. Would be comfortably one of the better players in that division.

Heard the young lad from derby on praise and grumble. He was very complimentary about stoke and was saying that rowett changes it up . Meaning he has a plan b that often he will go to, we've never had that have we. Saying he plays go the strengths of his team and the weaknesses of others. Plays out from the back.

I would lay Choupa at 10 if he stays. Hes no wide player or striker which is his problem, but this role could just be suited to him and his skill set.
