Rather than argue, I'll just put the link up. Just press play it should play from the point of Kenwyne's chance. The ball has hardly run away from him at that point mate. He could/should have done better. Already got it open in another tab I said it was running away rather than had run away... well obviously people see things differently but if you look at the point of contact with the ball, how Kenwyne has to stretch, the distance between the ball and the keeper (a metre maybe? a touch more) and the fact that the ball was advancing quickly in the direction of Hart... I honestly don't know what else he was supposed to do really. To be fair it was Kenwynne's wank touch that made the ball run away from him and made him have to stretch for the ball. Summed Kenwynne up did that chance.

Summed Kenwynne up did that chance. You're just being incredibly harsh. Is it possible that your knowledge of "what might have been" and the stakes involved is clouding your judgement? He did really well against the defender to even get into the position for the chance from a hopeful hoof upfield. No neutral observer on the planet would see that chance in real time, out of context, and conclude that it was a "wank touch" or poor technique or a terrible miss. It was a forward creating himself a decent chance which he had a split-second to take a stab at, and the keeper making a good save. Fin. edit- in fact you'll notice in the commentary they mention nothing about Kenwyne doing better, only what a good save it was.

Wank, with a big head - but all the best to him. Not a bad professional career of about 550 first team appearances for someone who was wank Solid, reliable pro; technically limited but with a great 'engine'. If the likes of Imbula had anything remotely like Dean's attitude and strength he would be a world-beater!

The 1 on 1 in the Cup Final was the moment our dream died. Any kind of finesse and technique would have put us 1-0 up and within a chance of a win. Nonsense. There's a kind of weird mythology surrounding that chance that rewrites it as a terrible miss, which it wasn't. It was a chance, but the ball was running away from Kenwyne and right into Joe Hart, he did more or less the only thing he could which was stretch to get a toe on it and try and poke it under the goalie. It was good goalkeeping and slightly unlucky. Nothing to do with Kenwyne's technique. I think the video link debunks the nonsense comment. Right up there in the MBD school of finishing.

Can you articulate exactly what it is you expected him to do better in terms of his finish? How could he have produced anything other than what he did, given the split-second he had, the proximity to the goalie and the fact he was stretching? I don't think you're being realistic. I'm not being glib, I'm genuinely interested.

He's was a decent athlete, just a wank footballer. Every team needs it's "water carrier" though, and he made a career out of it. Good on him.

I think our very own Choppo runs his contract down to move on free transfers with a signing on fee

Great servant was Deano.
This thread is the perfect opportunity for someone better with technology than me to post the YouTube video of someone in a Dean Whitehead mask pole dancing, it's genius.

Best of Luck, Joe Dalton! Sorry, meant Dean Whitehead. Always a good fighter. Would have liked 11 of your kind in that respect.
(isn't that name a bit racially?)

You wouldn't find him posting cringeworthy selfies after a defeat. Of course you wouldn't. Have you not seen the fucking state of his kipper?!

Got us through those Europa cup stages and at that time was streets ahead of Diouf now

Happy retirement Dean. You can’t help but admire a player like Whitehead. There’s players with more talent who don’t even make it as professionals. That sounds like a back-handed compliment to Dean Whitehead but it’s intended as nothing but a compliment.

As limited as he might have been in the Premier League we'd do well to uncover another player like Whitehead in the Championship. Won three promotions (two with Sunderland, one with Huddersfield). Also captained Sunderland to their title in 2006/07 and was voted into the PFA Team of the Year.

I'm fine with the dance and the ghostbusters outfit, I just can't understand why Deano decided to drink a pint before a match like that.

Good pro. A rarity around these parts. I wish we could resign him as a 28 year old. I don’t get the dislike for him. He was a true professional and did the hidden defensive work.
