Retiring after Sundays game Vs Arsenal. Not the greatest player technically, but a good servant for this club, did the dirty work in midfield under TP and came up with a few big goals too if I remember correctly.
Good luck Deano - here's to a happy and successful retirement.

Used to drive me nuts!!!
BUT......and a big but....our midfield then was better, and more effective with him in it than it has been this season.....that is an undeniable fact!!!!
Happy Retirement!

Wank, with a big head - but all the best to him. Really? An announcement of someone’s retirement and you can’t be gracious enough just to say good luck to him or simply be quiet? He may have not been any of our favorite midfielder, but he played for Stoke. I wish I could say the same. Good Luck Deano!

(time for another Kenwyne thread I reckon....come on guys!...we haven't had one for at least 3 weeks....must be all the distractions!)

Typical of Kenwyne chasing a lost cause and Deano providing the clinical finish. Sparked off scenes of delirium behind the goal!

Still don't get the hate for Dean. He was nowhere near the worst player we've had in the Premier League. He was just a workhorse; not a particularly talented one, but he always gave 100% and considering we've had a season of half arsed semi-lazy bollocks from our current squad, I'd quite happily take a 28 year old Dean Whitehead over a number of players currently earning a wage they don't deserve. At least you knew what you were getting with Deano.
Best of Luck.

Any kind of finesse and technique would have put us 1-0 up and within a chance of a win.

Good servant was Deano.
We all knew his limitations but he was a handy player in the Pulis "cage" system.
Never gave less than 100% either.
You wouldn't find him posting cringeworthy selfies after a defeat. You wouldn't hear of him being disciplined for going AWOL or missing training. You wouldn't find him failing drug tests or in the newspapers for all the wrong reasons.
Hes the complete opposite of the type of player we currently have, which is the main reason we're going down.
Still, we have some fans slagging him off.
He's going to be a coach at Huddersfield next season.
Wagner "Dean is a winner. He demands 100% effort from himself and everyone around him, he commands respect and is top quality in everything he does."
Sound like the kind of head we need around the place right now.

Yeah, 'aaaard work' and 'pashun' are oft derided terms but you don't half miss it when you've got as many fannies as we have with neither.

Good pro. A rarity around these parts. 🎯 I think our demise began when we began to lose the core good pro's and began to take on the less well motivated chaps: Wimmer, Imbula, Palacios Be-a-rhino et al It ain't always pretty but we love a tryer down the Brit/Bet 👍😬

The cup final and Valencia away one on ones he missed will forever scar me The 1 on 1 in the Cup Final was the moment our dream died. Any kind of finesse and technique would have put us 1-0 up and within a chance of a win. Nonsense. There's a kind of weird mythology surrounding that chance that rewrites it as a terrible miss, which it wasn't. It was a chance, but the ball was running away from Kenwyne and right into Joe Hart, he did more or less the only thing he could which was stretch to get a toe on it and try and poke it under the goalie. It was good goalkeeping and slightly unlucky. Nothing to do with Kenwyne's technique.

The ball has hardly run away from him at that point mate. He could/should have done better.

Already got it open in another tab I said it was running away rather than had run away... well obviously people see things differently but if you look at the point of contact with the ball, how Kenwyne has to stretch, the distance between the ball and the keeper (a metre maybe? a touch more) and the fact that the ball was advancing quickly in the direction of Hart... I honestly don't know what else he was supposed to do really.
