Yes he was total shit at Valencia, but it's close to his home, he knows the game, has great contacts and a big club in the championship is his perfect level without mega pressure. Honestly, I think he is a perfect fit for us.

Some of us are old enough to remember when we decided to experiment with bringing big-named, ex-players in, giving them their first job in management. Mick Mills, Alan Ball, Joe Jordan... It never worked as well as when we brought in managers who had shown some solid talent for management. Pulls came via Gillinham, Bristol City and Bournemouth, Alan Durban came via Shrewsbury, Lou Macari came via Swindon and West Ham.
I would expect that Coates will have worked out by now, that you don’t give the main job to an apprentice manager. And you could argue that Neville is someone who failed his apprenticeship.

Terrible idea. Luckily it will never happen because Neville realised how bad he was and says management is not for him. Now if only PL could have this kind of epiphany.

I actually had this conversation yesterday about Neville being given a go. If he had a decent number 2 who he could trust that has experience along the lines of Meulensteen (I know he failed as a boss) but he was lauded by Fergie as his number 2 then maybe it could be worth a shout.
I'm sure they could attract a better players than Lambert and could he do any worse than Lambert.
Saying all that, id still prefer Big Sam, Jokanovic, Wagner though.

There are plenty I’d prefer but given the straight choice of Lambert v Neville, I’d go with Neville every time.
Actually, given the straight choice of Lambert v no manager, I’d go with no manager every time.

What about Neil Lennon? Close to leaving Hibs where he has done a very good job. Also used to managing under expectation at Celtic where he got some great results.
Not everyone's cup of tea but a good manager I think.

If Lambert is given the sack Big Sam or TP for me! Not always exciting, but you know what you will get and the DNA wil be restored in the group. I've said it all the time, a PL mid-table team is OK by me.
