Simple jog down memory lane Rules: 1. Pick your all time favorite ONE goal from our time with Pulis in the Prem and the same from our time with Hughes in charge. 2. Give a brief rationale for your picks. 3. Include a video of each goal. 4. No slagging people off for their choice - hey who’s to say that agent sonko’s own goal wasn’t the best.
Mine. I found the Pulis era hard to pick. So many great memories. Delap, Higgy, Huth, Beattie, but one week in to our prem era and things were looking grim. Unfairly thumped in our first game against Bolton, paddy power paying out. Anxieties running high and then up steps Ricky. This is the goal thar made me realize that we deserve to be in the prem. Check it out at 4:11 below
Mark Hughes? So many technically great goals. Crouchie getting the headed goals record, Bojan, affelay, Shaq but the goal that made me think that we had finally found a replacement for SAS in our wonderful BMX......... we truly were Stokalona for a short while. See it at 0:32 Looks like Shaqiri could actually beat his man on the outside in those heady days!
We had some great times.

I can't be bothered to choose just one goal.
We had some great times, great games and great goals. Just looking at those videos is like watching another club with the pace, determination, flair, and attacking intent. Ric's goal away at West Ham, Crouch's at home to Man City, Lawrence away at Hull, and numerous others could all have been included.
Whatever happened to leave the club in such a sorry mess ?

Don't have time to search for videos, but Pulis time is Peter Crouch v Man City, that lanky leg somehow producing that beautiful arc of a shot into the goal over a helpless Hart. In Hughes time, Shaqiri away at Everton, the "was it shot or a cross" goal - that game was the zenith of Stokealona as we scored 4 away at Everton and BMX ran amok. It was never as good again, and our decline was swift after the Liverpool cup loss. At the time we didn't truly appreciate how good we were - I think we all do now by comparison.

Fuck me that second assist from Shaq Agree there was a real connect between Shaq and Arne wasn’t their. Spotting the gap and Arnie knowing that’s where the ball was destined is pure footballing genius. Something totally lacking at present when we can’t even get the basics right of running and accurate passing forward.

That's the best football I've seen any Stoke team ever play and my second game was beating title winners Leeds United 3-2 in 1974.

How the hell have we gone from that to what we currently are ? In such a short space of time as well. Just as well that lessons have been learned though.

How far we rose with a great side
How far we are falling
A total cluster fuck
But at least I saw the great Waddington side and the Premiership years
It feels a million miles away now mind

There were lots of great goals. Always liked this one for a slightly different reason - the celebtration. Higgy's melting intensity-turned erupting smile wins me over every time! - alas not caught very well on this footage.

Fuller vs Villa.
It makes me weep from my third eye every time I watch it.
Hughes, N’Zonzi vs Liverpool, I witnessed one man single handedly destroy a team that day, it was sublime.

We really were that good for a while weren’t we.
If I get home and Ricky is in bed with the wife I’d tuck him in and make him cocoa.

Spotting the gap and Arnie knowing that’s where the ball was destined is pure footballing genius. Something totally lacking at present when we can’t even get the basics right of running and accurate passing forward. In fairness to MH, he said that was something they had identified and worked on. With Bojan deeper and no obvious striker to mark, they felt they could exploit that space with Arnie flying in from the left. Shaq was playing the ball to the middle of the box - he must have been aware of Arnie steaming in as they had been working on it. Arnie hit the post in the first half too. We absolutely took them apart. Beautiful football. We were against one of the most expensively assembled teams in Europe and for 45 minutes they just couldn't cope with us. "We're taking the piss" rang out across the pitch- against Manchester City. I'm not sure we'll ever see a day like that again.

Beattie header to beat Manc city with 10 men ....awesome Agreed - the most important goal ever scored in our Prem years for me - really galvanised us for a long period. Hughes era - Bojan away at Spurs for me - that gave me hope that we were truly on our way. I'm sad now.
