I'm trying to encourage my mum who is her late 70's to start using online grocery delivery for day to day items. She's very good with the interwebs and is used to using Amazon etc.
Anyone have any recommendations, I presume Tesco is a good option? She lives in Trentham.
Thanks all.

I use Tesco & they've always been fine. Delivery blokes are always friendly & on time (I've had I think one which was late in years of using them, but this was after some major crash their website had) You can also get a 'delivery saver' which from memory is about £7/8 per month & means you can have as many deliveries as you like without having to pay a delivery charge each time.
I like how they'll give you a 'substitute' aswell if what you wanted wasn't in stock (You don't have to accept it, the delivery bloke will tell you as soon as he knocks on & you say whether you want it or not) And it'll always be something similar/better. For example if you ordered 'Tesco own brand choco-pop' and they were out-of-stock they'd give you Kellogs coco-pops instead (But if you'd ordered Kellogs they wouldn't try to palm you off with own brand stuff, they'd give you what they felt was closest to what you wanted from proper brands) - Somewhere like Sainsbury's for example wont do this. If it's out-of-stock they'll just miss it off the list (Or atleast did the last time I used them)
The website is easy to use aswell, unlike somewhere like Morrison's which is terrible. I would search for what you want though rather than using the dropdown menus. For example I enjoy my bourbon but if I use the dropdown menus it'll show me how they've got Jim Beam for such & such, or a 35cl Jack Daniels for such & such, it's only when I type Jack Daniels into the search that I see they've got a 70cl bottle on 'special offer'.

I worked in Sainsbury's Online Department for 2 years 2015-2017, it's not without it's stresses but there are a lot of systems in place to make sure the food is the best quality. The only issue is with fruit and veg as we could only get what was on the shop floor so if they hadn't put new stuff out yet we'd have to pick what we could as you're on a "items picked per minute" system that you are judged on.
Drivers I managed were top notch lads, it really was a pleasure to work with them. The most issues really are bottles of spirits still having the cap on, when you're working at 4am to get the orders done you can overlook things like that but it's always rectified promptly.

Great advice thank you so much! We use Fresh Direct here in manhattan and it's fantastic. They haul our groceries including beer and wine up 5 flights of stairs and never complain. We always give them a nice tip. Hopefully my mum will be willing to give it a go. I just don't see the point in her driving to the supermarket, loading/unloading the car etc.

Another thing to note, if she was to order from Sainsbury's the hub for the area of Stoke and surrounding areas (upto about half of Leek when I was there) is the store on London Road in the center of Stoke town centre! All deliveries are sent out from there

I live in Trentham and I use Tesco, they're brilliant.
Never had an issue, they always come within the allotted time slot. Drivers are friendly too.

Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Ocado all pretty good in my experience although I do tend to avoid fresh fruit & veg with all except Waitrose as some of the stuff the others have tried to palm us off with wouldn't be out of place in pig swill.
Also, if she’s confident with Amazon, didn’t Amazon do some sort of tie up with Morrisons so that you could order at Amazon but Morrisons did the delivery?

Nothing to add to the sound advice already posted, but off on a bit of a tangent.my other half worked for Tesco for a good few years and reckons that a lot of their research highlighted that older customers actually enjoyed the experience of going into stores as it provided an important source of social contact for them: using the same checkout operators on a daily /weekly basis, speaking to the same members of staff, being asked how they are,etc.. Internet shopping will certainly do away with the inconvenience of lugging the heavier items around but it might just be worth bearing in mind what your mum's motivation for going out is?

Good question, mum is fortunately within a short walk of some nice shops that offer fresh veg etc. This would be more for heavy goods that are pre-packaged. We do the same her in New York, we have a great grocery store on our corner but I get the Fresh Direct people to haul all the beer, wine, milk etc. up 5 flights!
