He has an opinion like everybody else but the problem is he’s high profile Paul Lambert has done a superb job with all the behind the scenes problems and credit to him for that but his tactics, team selections and use of the subs has seen him show he’s not the man for the job The club surely won’t go against supporter discontent again and if they do ...well it doesn’t bare thinking about mate The fact he’s quoted that HE HOPES to be the man to get us back up doesn’t sound like somebody with another two years on his contract Watch this space I honestly don't believe that any manager could have picked a winning team from our squad, (available players). I don't either but Paul Lambert isn't the man to manage us next season.

I'm a bit on the fence about keeping him on. I think he is too high risk, and we need to get a proven manager. However, if he is kept on, and we did well, I wouldn't be particularly surprised.

I’m not disagreeing as such ....but his decisions to bring back Glenn Johnson, play peter crouch in a lone role, and his team selections and in game management have been utterly appalling He’s done nothing, absolutely nothing to make me think hes the man for the job

I do like Spinksy - but he's embarrassing himself with this silly Lambert cheerleading. I know things were testy between him and Hughes at the end, but this insane Lambert apologist stuff as a stick to further beat him with is really a bit poor The thing that worries me about this is ... would Spinks write something like this, if he didn't feel pretty confident that he'd had a pretty positive steer from somebody at the club on what the most likely outcome was going to be? He wouldn't want to be seen to be championing a failure if there was a high likelihood that he was about to get sacked. It's almost like he's been given a tip on the result and is now attempting to join the dots to understand it. That was my first thought too. With the hopeful side of me thinking it might be done to see what reaction it gets but I don't honestly believe that.

However, if he is kept on, and we did well, I wouldn't be particularly surprised. He's way, way too much of a risk. He's damaged goods, if he spends a load of money in the summer and then we have a difficult start with no wins in the first four or five then the atmosphere will turn toxic. Even if they truly believe he is the correct man to get us back up, they simply can't run the risk of the above scenario happening.

Christ Spinks what a truly embarrassing read! Again someone else (including those at SCFC HQ) who refuse to look at his record both here and at Villa and in the championship. In case you might read this board Spinks, digest the following and think again... His record at Villa before he was fired was won 2 in 24 scoring 12 yes 12 goals! His record for us won ONE in 14 scoring just 10 goals not managing more than one goal in the last 13 games and dropped points in 6 games from winning positions. His recent record in the Championship 15th place finish with Blackburn 15th place finish with promoted Wolves and fired Rejected by Hull City in favour of Nigel Adkins His record in the last 6 years screams FAILURE. Surely in the whole of European football there must be someone better than this!

We were supposed to be fighting relegation. We went in front in numerous occasions and still were so inept we never even looked like winning. I can't believe anyone is even contemplating lambert being our manager next season. Even the way his tactics were picked apart publicly at the weekend...embarrassing

Im hoping this is just Spinksy enjoying his current status where he has more access to the club and wants it to continue. He was basically frozen out by the Hughes camp and was glad to see him go.
Maybe Lambert has asked his journalist buddy to post a few meaningless "facts" comparing the worst period of Hughes tenure against his own 14 games (which he still won less points during it)

Interesting words from Spinks: His proactive approach to signings will also minimise the failings of the club’s current process with a sit-at-home manager like Hughes around.
From the SC minutes: He stated that the recruitment team (Tony Scholes, Mark Cartwright and the whole scouting team) act on the manager’s initial views of where he feels the squad needs to be strengthened by identifying potential signings and then, with the manager having the final decision, agreeing a preferred option (player) to pursue.
So the process (that isn't broken) where the manager identifies the areas to strengthen and the recruitment team then provide the shopping list of in budget options, is going to be replaced with a manager who proactively seeks replacements?
Something is going to have to give. And if there is any club driven insight in this article it can only be in one area, can it not?

Who else can see the following scenario: 1.Lambert gets given the job. 2.We're midtable or worse after 20 games. 3.Lambert is sacked 4.The recently-sacked Neil Warnock is hired in his place. Nailed. On. Said to anybody who will listen he stays and next season will Become a lost season for the very reasons outlined above.....

That's probably what he was doing at West Brom, hence Moore needing a grand total of four matches to equal TP's win total 😊

WT (actual) F is Spinks on about in that complete nonsense of a story?
No point in comparing him to LMH game by game, point by point, goals conceded by ... they were both utterly Jodrell Bank.
He had his chance & blew it big time.
Yes, he was given the worst possible hand imaginable in terms of an inherited squad (but he knew the players etc, etc,., so knew what he was getting and, presumably, offered a solution in his interview?).
Yes, he's rooted out the bad eggs (but we could all see who they were a million miles away from the confines of CW).
Yes, he's tightened the defence / goals against (but F. me, literally any Sunday League manager could have done that by just putting bods behind the ball).
But is he the man to take us forward and straight back up?
Begins with "n", has two characters and the second one is a vowel.
As noted above (& horror of horrors) Spinks must have heard that the P.45 was not being readied down in HR?
And, in which case, it is quite simply utter, utter nonsense from the board.
If he stays, I hope PC or whoever has the brass bollox to come out and defend such a ludicrous decision.
And that's even before we get onto Scholes and Farto...
So far, nothing whatsoever suggests we are going about getting straight back the 'right way', or any way at all.
Whichever way you look at it, it's a complete and utter mess.

I don’t know, no, I just think it’s a daft notion and extremely unlikely. For a start, surely the whole point of the structure is for the transfer team to find players the manager isn’t aware of. Second, numerous players clearly were Hughes’ signings that exploited his contacts in the game. Third, Peter Coates isn’t a man to sanction a prolonged, expensive pursuit of a player his manager isn’t utterly convinced about. These structures are almost always driven by the manager.

Thank you for admitting you're non the wiser than I am on the Berahino saga. I'm not saying every transfer under the Hughes tenureship started exclusively with Cartwright et al. Imbula seemed to be a shot in the dark from one preseason friendly, most likely driven by Hughes. What is at odds from the Spinks piece is the change of pace from a DoF driven transfer regime (per the SC minutes) to a more manager led Pulis like set up, and we know how that turned out. The conjecture was that Spinks had been fed information (I'm not so sure) by the club for his article. What's grey in the SC minutes is: was the final choice of player only open to those recommended to him from the recruitment team (maybe Ange who was at the meeting could clear up?)? His proactive approach to signings will also minimise the failings of the club’s current process with a sit-at-home manager like Hughes around. Spiknks' words not mine.
