Ask Hull, Cardiff, and Blackpool about owners. I for one hope the Coates family own the club for generations to come. If they all end up as tight as Coates is I fucking hope not

This has all happened while the Coates fortune has risen from 1.2 Billion to 1.5 Billion. That is why Coates Sr wanted self sufficence....Lepoards and spots.

There's not a poster on this message board who wanted lambert as manager and very few who thought he was capable of keeping us up when appointed, thats the scary thing, everyone else could see it, Coates and co evidently couldn't! the appointment was desperate, ill conceived and stank of a club almost resigned to relegation, they no doubt thought they were pulling off a master stroke by bringing Lambert back to the premiership but it's been disastrous.

Don't see why this is so scary?
There are as many rich bad owners as there are good and same can be said of those with not so much money, see Burnley.
He has had two attempts at it and we have won nothing during either

If going down means we don't have to put up with childish muppets like this then thank god, you can keep the Premier League and all it represents that is wrong in society today.

The first heads we should call for is Scholes and Cartwright. Only in football are you rewarded for failure. If i was that bad at my job i'd be sacked. Which brings me to Lambert, he needs to go also.

Then your johnny come lately OP muppet wouldn't even be supporting this club. And why the hell does having a successful business mean he has to put everything he owns in to the club he supports, do you?

I think people need to chill out a bit, those saying we've lacked spending need to take another look, we've spent its just that those in charge of spending it have fucked it up, you can blame Coates for taking too long to sack Hughes and then hiring Lambert but is that really worthy of calling for his head, personally I don't think so. Spot on. Anyone who thinks the Coates family haven't spent money on the club can't have bothered to look at the accounts - or if they have looked at them they haven't understood them. bet365 bought the club back for a few million quid. Since then they have won promotion to the Prem and kept us there for ten seasons and reached a Cup Final. But anyone who thinks they have lined their pockets with club money during those 12 years will need to explain how the club has racked up £75 million in directors' (interest free) loans. In a nutshell, that means that during bet365's tenure as owners they have spent £75 million more than the club has received in income. And £50 million out of that £75 million can be accounted for by the transfer fees of three players who are not actually good enough for the first team - add on their wages and you are getting pretty close to the £75 million figure. Anyone who doesn't accept that is basically accusing the Coates family of fraud - and they'd have to be pretty daft to commit fraud on a football club which is a minor part of the massive multi £billion profitable business that is bet365. There are clubs which are similar (in terms of population and size of stadium) which have been bought by rich foreign owners. But all of them seem to be in areas where ticket prices and sponsorship opportunities are higher. Being brutally honest - if I were a rich foreign investor and I wanted to buy a club with recent Premier League experience with a catchment area of 350k and a stadium holding at least 30k then Stoke City would not be the one I would be going for - it would be very low down on my list. A club where ticket prices have not been raised for over 10 years? A club which made a loss in more years than it made a profit during 10 years in the Premier League? A club where the current owners have invested £75 million over and above the income received? And all this with a significant number of fans who think the present owners are creaming off money from the club!!!!!! No foreign £billionaire with any business sense would touch us with a barge pole! bet365 are our owners purely and simply because Peter Coates is a fan. If he wasn't neither he nor the rest of his family would touch us with a barge pole. I struggle to see who would ever buy them out at any sort of realistic figure given the size of the debt.

It's not about the money, it's about complacency and lack of grip for me - I've taken notice of wise heads like Smudge (come on you just have to look at his Sentinel pic to see the wisdom shine out ), and you John, and moderated my view somewhat till now but over the past two seasons, we've let things slide from the top down and this is the result. We came up as a tight, chippy little club and we're going down as a baggy middle-sized one with a boardroom that see themselves too much as statesmen of the game and not enough as arsey Stokies up here to prove we can. As I've said before the last thing I want is non-UK owners buying the Coates family out, I love what they do for the area and I love that they've had the commercial foresight as well as the genuine loyalty to a place not to offshore half their jobs. But I do think this is time for PC to step sideways. I wish some fairy dust would land on Denise and make her more interested in the game and the club, I believe she's the one with the most acute mind for the challenges we have ahead, but I'm sure John's no slouch either and that's obvs where the succession means to go, so we should do it now - and **** Cartwright and Scholes off, they're damaged goods. I really don't want Cartwright here another week.

Peter needs to step down as chairman. There's no need for any abuse or over the top criticism but now is the time to reflect on some of the poor decisions that he and the board have made. They have appointed two managers that have not gained the results required. He as chairman appointed them - both. He has overseen a dreadful recruitment policy that has seen us build one of the worst and unbalanced squads in recent times. He must carry the can, step down and allow another member of the board their chance to rectify the wrongs of this season - a complete fresh pair of eyes and ideas. We are desperate for a fresh direction and now, with so many of the first team leaving, is the one chance we will have to do it. But what if John has been just as much a part of those decisions as his dad, maybe possibly even more? I think it's bit of a stretch to imagine that all of the poor decisions that have been made are solely the responsibility of Peter and if he steps down, then John will handle things better. At the end of the day, they are not bad owners. We havent got a Hull or a West Ham situation here, they are people who genuinely love the football club and who are very wealthy ones at that, ones who have poured a small fortune in to the club that they care so passionately about. Whether they are actually competent enough to run the club is a different thing but if they aren't, then there's not really a whole lot we can do about it - it's THEIR club and we'll just have to suck up whatever comes our way. I'm hoping (and kind of expecting) that lessons are going to be learned from their mistakes and they're going to make a full on push for an instant Prem return, with the finance and personnel in place to facilitate it. We shall see.

I really don't want Cartwright here another week. I think John Coates deserves a chance and I hope he gets it this summer. The trouble is I don't know how much he agrees with the decicions (good and bad) made by Peter in the past 10 years. As far as I know nobody knows the answer to that. If John gets the chance - and if Denise's husband, Richard, also plays a bigger part in the decision making, hopefully the next generation will avoid the mistakes of the past 2 years. I wouldn't pin much hope on the club being sold quickly to a British bidder let alone a foreign bidder. You say it "isn't about the money" Sal. Unfortunately, to some extent it has to be about the money. The money in this case being the £75 million in directors' loans owed by the club to bet365. They seem happy to keep those loans interest free but that does not mean that they will happily write them off in the event of a sale of the club. I seem to remember that it was the club debt which caused a year's delay in a sale of the club by the Icelandic owners when Peter was negotiating to buy it from them. The debt in those days was (I think) 10 or 12 £million. If a figure like that was a sticking point 12 years ago then you can bet your life that £75 million will be an even bigger sticking point now. I don't care how rich the Coates family are they didn't get where they are today by happily waving goodbye to a large chunk of £75 million.

His recent talk in the press, for me, is of a man who is a little bit out of touch, culminating in the ridiculous "I don't see what all the fuss is about" throw away line. If they keep Lambert and we drop through into League One would they still be good owners or bad owners, or just incompetent owners? It's fine lines for me. I want to see a change in direction. Fresh ideas in the dugout with a younger, progressive coach like Potter or Dean Smith. Something and someone with a common goal and ethos that we can finally get behind without all the nonsense bickering.

But anyone thinking we need to get new owners is detached from reality. In the grand scheme of thinks we are fortunate. There are a lot of awful owners out there, and a lot of clubs similar to us, who may feel they should have their turn in the premier league, have been languishing in the championship and lower for years. I don't believe we will become a leeds or a forest, I am certain they will learn from mistakes and we will be back quickly. Though having said that, I am hugely concerned they might actually keep lambert

Peter Coates has always been a genuine supporter as well as Chairman. He had a vision 10 years ago to get us back into the top flight, get to an FA Cup final for the first time and see us in Europe. All achieved and great credit to the man. But now what's left as an ambition? To do that all over again? I very much doubt it and that's why he will step aside in the summer. John Coates I guess will succeed him and his tenure and relationship with the fans will not start off well if Lambert and Cartwright are still here in August.

He isn't going to give up regardless of his age I think the fact that Southampton NEARLY achieved it speaks volumes i.e. it's never going to happen. No other club bar Everton (much much bigger club than Saints or us) has failed with the self-sufficiency model. At best it leads to a yo yo club between Champs and premier nothing better to his credit he managed 10 years but eventually it collapsed...poor recruitment and an underachieving academy that's delivered nothing.

John wasn't part of that. If they aren't selling the club then the only viable options are carry on with either Peter or John calling the shots. If Peter steps down could John do a worse job? To be fair he could... Gamble worth taking?

If he has.then I'm really worried because I cannot see where any directorial improvements will come from. Can't explain why but I've got a feeling of new owners looming.

If the Coates family sell up, we are absolutely doomed forever! Why? Well even if a Trillionaire Russian or Chinese geezer bought the club, we still wouldn't do any good, because they wouldn't give a shite about the club. It would just be for the sake of 'look at me I'm so rich I own an English football club' or money laundering. Mr Coates made a massive error in getting rid of Tony Pulis & we will never have those times back again. I mean it, you''ll see in next 10 or 20 years. It will just be like after the stadium collapse of the 1970's.
