Can't believe there isn't a thread already for what will be seen in the future as a historic day, not only in the region but for the world.
Well done President Trump.

Even the BBC were giving President Trump some praise for his belligerence tonight. They also showed the last two summit photos and mentioned the fact that the North had reneged on promises before. The elite in North Korea have so much to lose in any process of unification.

The elite in North Korea have so much to lose in any process of unification. Yes indeed. Anyone thinking this is the start of a genuine rapprochement between North and South Korea is kidding themselves. This is all about de-escalating the tension in the peninsular caused by the combination of nuclear and ICBM tests in the North. China, more so than Trump, is the key player here. They were content to indulge Kim's belligerence when it was effectively bluster. Now he has significant military capability, China is acting to reign him back. What I expect to see over the coming weeks / months is a historic ending of the Korean War - remember it never ended, only an armistice was agreed. Kim will then go back to North Korea and continue as before only with less military showboating. Oh - and sanctions will be significantly reduced. The big tragedy in all this is, of course, the North Korean people whose lives of misery will carry on.

I wonder how aware the average North Korean is of what life is really like outside their country ?
I would imagine they are almost force fed pro-Kim propaganda on a daily basis and are presumably heavily restricted on what external news they see.
I can't see Kim and his henchmen allowing their power and position to be jeopardised in any way so little if anything will change within N.Korea.

As said before, N Korea have so many human rights violations, how can they ever give up power. It would be a death sentence. But Trump is such a megalomaniac, that he won't acknowledge this...

How has this come about (I am fairly ignorant on this topic and haven't followed the news on it either)? Is it really Trump who deserves the credit?

The BBC were suggesting that the threat of Trump has helped and that he is also acknowledging the position that China has taken in bringing pressure on North Korea.

Very few are aware of the world outside other than what they are told, other than some of the elite class who can travel for business etc Read John Sweeneys book about his time in the north it’s a great read

Well to be fair, if Obama can get it for bombing half the Middle-East to dust and arming Saudi backed terrorists then why the hell not? I will say this though, the world is going to be a very funny place when Trump comes out of the meeting with Fatboy Kim and drops dead from an unexplained reaction.
