I can't see us not being interested if he gets the push from Everton (as looks almost inevitable)

Wherever we find ourselves, Lambert will be our manager next season.

I imagine Peter has got a poster of Sam on his wall. His dream manager. Definitely. Ties in with what Angela Smith was saying last week on Knot FM. "Do I think Lambert will be here next season? If we can get the man we originally targeted, no. Otherwise, yes" I'm assuming that Big Sam was the man they were after originally when we were dithering over Hughes?

I imagine Peter has got a poster of Sam on his wall. His dream manager. Its the whirling of the hands and wearing the club shop that does it for him. End of season discussions tabled re the wearing of a cap. This could make or break next season for Coates

Will Allardyce drop into the Championship?
No.

Will Allardice drop into the Championship? No. Maybe his exit at Everton will finally prove to him that his style of play is toxic to any club of that size with aspirations of grandeur, and they just won't stand for it. This is the third 'big' club that's going to bin him while he's been doing 'okay' Whereas to someone like Coates, he'd be an absolute dream. I think the Stoke/WBA-types will be his next stopping off point if he wants to carry on working. He may not because he doesn't need the money. If we could get him, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

You make a very valid point but I still don't think an arrogant tossrag like Allardyce would demean himself down in the Championship. Edit Now if we stayed up that's a different matter. But I'm sure in those circumstances Coates would honour Lambert's contract.

We really need to get away from these sort of mangers.

If we go down. Lambert will be our manager in the championship. We will be mid table by Christmas and Warnock will take over after being sacked by Cardiff who are sitting at the bottom of the Premier League. Warnock will lift the club taking us back into the Premier League at the first attempt.

Imo lambert deserves his chance to bring us back up. He as inherited this shower of shit but already instilled discipline and passion. Hearing him talk he appreciates what the area is about and what we want to see. He wasn’t my original choice by a million miles but I’ve been impressed by what he’s trying to do.

Sounds like fan pressure is going to convince Everton to send him on his way with £6m in his back pocket come the summer. What kind of clubs would be in for him? I think us and the Baggies would be as good as he could get. I'd back him to make a good fist of getting us up

He's in a position where he can pick and choose his jobs isn't he?
In that context I can't see why he'd want a Champo job.
Maybe West Brom would appeal as he's from that part of the world but even then, his ego would demand a top flight job you'd think?

Big Sam would be excellent for SCFC
And
SCFC would be excellent for Big Sam.
We would now be mid-table if Big Sam had replaced Hughes.

Quite hard to think of a bottom half club that fits the bill where the fans would be on board with such a pragmatic appointment though. Coatesy doesn't worry about that kind of thing. But it could well be that he just decides to retire to the Algarve. He doesn't need another job, does he?

If Coates dangled the dong in front of his eyes, with a big bonus for getting up and another one for staying up, the Algarve would be a very distant place. Christ i'm depressed. I can see this one being a go-er. Let's hope he has a huge salary demand and an even bigger budget demand to scare off the family.

I really don't understand this 'deserves his chance' thing, why does he ? He wasn't the right choice (the right choice would have kept us up) and he may well be 'passionate' have 'instilled discipline' and understands 'what the area is about' but he has won one Mach in 10. He is Alan Ball mark 2 and by keeping him we are accepting mid table mediocrity, poor football and getting just about what (some'of) the people,of Stoke on Trent seem to think they deserve,

Big Sam would be excellent for SCFC And SCFC would be excellent for Big Sam. We would now be mid-table if Big Sam had replaced Hughes. If he had replaced Hughes at the start of the season or as early as October - maybe. If he had come in as late as Lambert did, I am not so sure. Lambert may not be as good a manager as big Sam but with the unbalanced squad Hughes left us with I don't think it is certain that any manager could have us much higher up the table than we are. Apart from one or two players Lambert doesn't seem to be using, I'm not sure there is the quality in our squad to keep us up. Lambert has certainly improved the defence and the organisation - where are the attacking players to get the goals we would need - whoever the manager is?

I reckon we have to accept that Lambert will be the manager next season otherwise he'd have been given a short contract. There's no way PC will be thinking any other way.

When we go down the old school of management becomes very relevant! That said I would rather keep Lambert whatever our league status.

Another things in a long line of things that we must 'accept' Until a root and branch review and required changes are made then clearly we much 'accept' that the club is going nowhere fast
