There are some belting local bands around playing in some less than glamorous locations in the city. If you can try to support them by popping along to see them - you will be pleasantly surprised - I'm shit at links - especially from an iPad but try the below on youtube
The Gurus - Serpentine
Stepping Lane - Catastrophic Love Story

Quite a vibrant live scene, missing a Wheatsheaf type venue and the Sentinel gig listings page... but still good stuff happening. Try to tune in to Radio Stoke 'Introducing' now and then, local music, they announce gigs.. A500 music pretzel requires a big shout on this front. Puts great gigs on. Pilgrim's Pit in Stoke put some interesting things on. A couple or three local youth. The Blue Collars.. not doing so much at the moment, gig at Thee Sugarmill later in the year likely to sell out fast. Lead singer does the odd slot at local acoustic nights. 10 o'clock Chemical, new ep and a handful of local gigs. Delamere. Moorland upstarts. Local paper lad made good on bass. Seen them at The Brown Jug a couple of times, rather good. Magnetic Jellyfish, Scoundrels, On Parole, The Vans, The Scoundrels covers bands are all worth a peek too.

The In The City Festival over the Easter weekend was a credit to the city, hats off to the organisers. I went to the last event at the Underground, where headliners Weirds were replaced at the last minute by Deja Vega. Christ, they were absolutely blinding, full-on proper Kraut-rock, like Can at their peak. Their soundcloud page doesn't do the urgency of their live show justice: soundcloud.com/dejavegaThree local bands supporting too. There are a lot of bands out there working hard, putting in lots of practice and getting very tight, yet events and crowds are pretty sparse for a city our size.

Cheers for the plug cheeesfreeex I guess what we put on is not for everyone but as you found out when you came along, we put a lot of effort into making our nights that bit special. Our next show is on May 13th and we're going 'Americana' with Carter Sampson from Oklahoma backed and supported by another couple of youngsters from over there... should be a good night Details on the website in my signature below.

Saw Ten O'Clock Chemical at the Underground a couple of weeks ago. Very impressed, pop driven Monday's/Flowered Up thing. Bit of charismo from the front man and that.

Saw them in Leek two years ago and they sounded impressively like the KLF, second time a year later they'd gone a bit bland. Undoubtedly an interesting and, as you say, charismatic band worth following, if they have the courage to stay original and not aim for Glastonbury.

Thanks for this thread! It's always nice to dig into new music you've never heard before.
