Well that's the first quali over then. Hamilton looked really up for it as did Kimi and Verstappen , not too sure about Vettel seems a bit resigned already for me. The Merc looks a harder car to drive but the rewards are clearly there when they hit the sweet spot. Thought Bottas was a little unlucky with the crash, gambled a little and paid a heavy price.
Those bloody halos are a sport ruining feature and while I realise the drivers wanted them for safety they are the worst aesthetic thing ever added to a sport. Until we get crash helmets on footballers anyway^
Is there no way of photoshopping them out with some sort of mask effect. When you see what can be done with a fat arse and acne it must be possible surely?

We lost our US NBC broadcast team with the switch to Sky. Whist it was a competent show (despite ESPN moving FP3 - no surprise there) we are missing our old friends DIffy, Matchett and Hobbs. At least they do not have the screen crawl and limited commercial breaks... oh well.

If they made 10 cars go round the circuit one way and 10 cars go round the other way it may just get above dull as a sport

Not bang into F1 so not exactly an expert but I'll have the highlights on channel 4 in the background from time to time. Anyway, my point or question is, shouldn't Bottas be a lot closer to Hamilton that he is? I mean, Hamilton is good (obviously) but surely Bottas shouldn't be so consistently slower should he? I'm on about last season as well.

I haven't watched F1 for years. I much prefer World Superbike and Moto Grand Prix - much better racing and a fair amount of overtaking, plus the riders are lunatics.

I'm on about last season as well. Yup you're right . That's why Daniel Ricciardo is being tipped to take his seat as he's out of contract soon at Red Bull and isn't happy with Verstappen. In fairness it doesn't take much in terms of setup to lose confidence in the car like a back end sliding out on bends and the time just falls away. Lewis is brilliant at coping with a "loose" car so the gap looks bigger than it should be. When Bottas is happy with the car he is fast enough. Setting the car up is at least half the job of winning the race. A driver who can identify the problems and work with his crew to solve them has a big advantage.

Hamilton looks like a driver that's unbeatable with equal equipment, if Ricciardo is upset with Max as his team mate, then he's got another thing coming with Lewis! I hope it happens, as it's been shown in the past that Lewis can have the willies put up him, and Daniel is definitely a faster driver than Bottas.

I only race on my simulator now but you're right, a little push and you start driving out of your comfort zone. That's when the mistakes creep in. I don't think Ricciardo is so much unhappy with Verstappen, I think he believes Verstappen is getting preferred treatment over him. So more of a team thing. What a disgrace of a result today. Ferrari B team cause two safety car issues just when Ferrari need them, how bloody convenient. Seems a simply extending of existing rules need to be applied and that is No overtaking under a yellow or a safety car. He caould have been held at the end of the pits to resume his proper position without any problem. It's not only Lewis who was ripped off today a mention for Kimi who has had Vettel in his pocket all weekend who has also lost out.

Rule change required pathetic result. I thought that. How can a driver overtake another during virtual safety car period. How is that different from normal safety car session. If they stop for tyre change they should return in same position surely. Rediculaous rule that allows this. Anyway make the most of this season as its all off to Murdoch from next season.

I think I get the fact that BBC radio might want to broadcast the race but qualifying come on

How ace does the Ferrari look back in all red? Very is the answer! They'd look better with Hamilton driving one. Winning a world title with three different teams has to be one of his goals surely.
