Unfortunately I dont think we will make it out of this fix we are in now - For me its the boards fault on so many levels but I dont want to go down that path yet again.
But does anyone think that Lambert is the man to get us back up?
It appears that he prefers experienced players to youngsters (at least so far) and, if this continues and is a fair reflection of his mindset, I can imagine a Stoke championship team full of cheap (little or no money coming from the board) journeymen that will stabilise the club.
(I really do think that the club will have little investment and once any big assets are disposed of, Butland etc, the club may be put up for sale - no matter what the Coates say out in the press).
So what would be an alternative to lambert and his experienced journeymen?
Well, we do seem to have a fair few decent youngsters coming through and (going with Peter Coates' long term wishes about the academy) therefore dont we need a manager that is known to support young players and help them flourish? I really think that it will be a cert that next year we will have a very young team on the pitch - so we need a manager that will manage them in the correct way.
So shoot me down but what about Martin Jol?
No club at the moment after leaving Egypt because of security risks.
Knows English football
Always brought young talent through, playing attractive football - as in his time at Spurs
(and a bonus that Sobhi and the Egyptians love him!)
yes hes 62 - but is that really too old?
Just an idea.
I would rather have a young British manager known to bring youngsters through, but my knowledge of lower league managers with such "qualifications" is lacking Im afraid. Anyone know of any other younger better British alternatives that will bring on our youngsters?
I just cant see anything positive from keeping Lambert - I hope Im wrong.
So what about Jol? Got to be more exciting than Lambert surely! (and a return the schexxshy football?)

Jol would be more Hughes than Hughes. His Fulham team were exactly what Hughes’ Stoke became, soft, lazy, weak as pish.

We're already effectively paying for Hughes and Lambert as a result of Hughes pay off.
Paying for Hughes and Lambert and Martin Jol to just get Jol might be a bridge too far even for our CEO and the Board of Directors.
Although I suppose it all pales in to relative insignificance when you consider we are already paying all of Wimmer and Berahino's wages which are the size of a small planet and a good chunk of Inbula's and Bojan's inflated income too and getting nothing at all in return.
The decision making has not been too smart in the last couple of years it must be said.

as I posted elsewhere Lambert is dull as dishwater and a young manager with new ideas to freshen us up would be the way forwards, i.e. Graham Potter (or similar)

Would be worth a gamble and he had already said he would love to come to Stoke - but will never happen in a million years as the board have no ambition apert from the ambition to spend little or no money of their own (and to make sure they get as much out as possible when the clubs best assets are sold - and when the club itself is eventually sold.)
People who think the Coates run Stoke City in some altruistic way are saddly mistaken.
A leopard doesnt change his spots - that why we have been underfunded in the last couple of years (or 3-4 years?) and we are now seeing the consequences!
it didnt take a rocket scientist to see what would happen to a prem club that didnt continue to invest - unfortunately the Coates' have reverted to type.
Chineese anyone!

Both Southampton and West Brom are majority Chinese owned - so there is a strong likelihood that the two accompanying us to the Championship will have already said "yes" to a Chinese. Where we can then chum up to Birmingham and Barnsley - if they manage to avoid the drop to League 1 that is. So no thanks - not for me. |

i was going along ok with Lambert until I heard last weeks team selection , he will probably be here but any faith I had in him has taken a big hit after that.
If there is any vision in the club I hope they try to rebuild and get an identity back not just scrape back for more of the misery of just surviving in this league . That may have always been the case but when we had a bit of fight about us it seemed mych more enjoyable even with less talented individuals .
From what I have read about Potter he seems to have done lots of good things , not sure if he could transfer it to Stoke but we would be a much better club if he was allowed to try and succeeded

Nothing will change we will become a midtable championship club with no ambition unless there are changes at the top. This could have been very easily avoided if steps had been taken 2 seasons ago when the rot started to appear. People who say or think that we are a well run stable club should look a bit harder & see what a shambles we really are & how the owners have tried but failed to run the club on the cheap.

Lambert was employed ready for the championship, hence the 2.5 year contract. If it was just till the end of the season, it would of been the same contract Hughes has got at Southampton.

What that article fails to mention was his net spend of 40 million + and when you take into account the milner money and others I think it's fair to say he could afford decent players, he actually got some decent players in but forgot to realise counter attack was not there strength, example KEH was very effective and is again now playing a possession based game at Feyenoord ,his best signing undoubtedly was Benteke whose goals saved Lambert's neck time and time again ! |

If we are in the Championship next season,Lambert will be our manager,he wont get us into the playoffs,never mind the top 2,but do the board give a fuck? No they fucking dont,they have their cheap manager and will be glad to stick with him,knowing they wont have to dig into their pockets to find someone else for at least another 2 years.
