3 down for 16 including Root. Maybe I can stay up before NZ are batting...

Abysmal performance. Utterly inept and an absolute shambles.
I find it hard to believe that an England team could go out and bat with such little grit, determination, or technique, and continue to give their wickets away so cheaply.
Just what do Bayliss and Co. have them doing in training as it doesn't seem to be working.

Blimey - I didn't think our test match cricket could do much worse in this series than that abysmal showing in the Ashes.
But England have managed it.
A historic low on day 1 for our woeful batting line up.
And that after another excellent showing from our ODI team both in Australia and against New Zealand. There seems to be something rotten in our test side at the moment.

58 ALL OUT IN JUST 20.4 OVERS !
What a disgraceful performance.
NZ currently 128-3.

The test team just continues to go backwards under Baylis. Time for a change I think......

When he was appointed Bayliss was known as a one day coach and questions were asked about his ability to improve the test team. Well it seems he's continuing as previously as the ODI team have improved considerably whilst the test team continue to be inconsistent.
Things need to change if we are to improve.

Unfortunately things aren’t going to get better anytime soon. County cricket just isn’t producing test match quality batsmen or bowlers anymore.
We’re now starting to see players packing in red ball cricket and signing white ball only contracts. You can’t blame them really, it’s much more lucrative for them.
With Cook, Anderson and Broad all coming to the end of their careers and no one waiting in the wings to replace them, it could be a bleak period for our test side.

NZ have been a force at home since the Fleming era. Always enjoy our tours there, this aberration aside its usually great, competitive but well spirited cricket.

Feel sorry for the Kiwis as they are second class citizens to the likes of England, Australia, South Africa and India in terms of the amount of test matches they get, I think they’d be a force if it was a level playing field and not just about money.....

Batsmen no longer seem able to grind it out when conditions are tough. NZ bowled really well but the batsmen made it too easy for them. We need it to rain for about four days now!

Currently 48-1 so still 321-runs behind. Cook gone for 2 !
Still day 5 to go to try to save the game.

Business as usual for England once the rain stopped.
New Zealand piled on the runs.
Joe Root scores yet another 50, then gets out. Meanwhile Cook fails - noting this isn't a flat track. Or least ways not flat enough.
We have to bat all day tomorrow without losing 7 wickets to save the test.
Don't hold your breath!
