I was up there last night. It's easy to forget what a magnificent city it is. From the waterfront to the shopping area and the cultural quarter with the galleries and museum. The Cavern area was buzzing

Yes I agree, we go over quite regularly and really like the areas you've mentioned. We've also got friends in Southport so we go over quite regularly and meet them in Liverpool. We'll be visiting again fairly soon as the Museum has got an exhibition of the Terracotta Warriors over from China this year. Only problem is that you need an interpreter to understand some of the locals

On the subject of the people I had to go to the Passport office some years back at late notice when we realised that they wouldn't have the full 6 months left for the return journey. The security guy with the metal detector was smiling and joking as was the member of staff who dealt with me

If you like old school pubs, then The Globe near Lime Street Station is highly recommended. There’s a Wetherspoons attached to the station, so it’s easy to get your snappin quickly. Most stuff of interest is walkable. The Cavern and it’s associated pub massively recommended.

A nice two hours taking in Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, quite a few houses and schools, most locations in the songs or significant in the Beatles history. They finished near the Cavern, it’s a bit touristy but very atmospheric. Anyone with Rock n Roll in their soul has to go to the Cavern.

Well said, I was going to recommend the Cavern and the Beatles tour. My wife's from Liverpool, but without the accent and she doesn't nick stuff, and she's taken me on several guided tours of the place. As everywhere there are some real dives, but there are some really great buildings, galleries, museums as well as Albert Dock and the music history of the place. I like it a lot.

Concert Square is also good for a night out, some decent bars and some live music

The Cavern, is still in the same place but it’s floor plan rotated 90 degrees in its reconstruction and subsequently its entrance is further along Mathew Street. It was demolished to become a ventilation shaft for a railway line, but this never happened. 15,000 of the original bricks were used in its reconstruction. The Cavern still remains at 8-10 Mathew Street. The analogy I would use is one of a Morris Minor that’s been restored, some old bits remain, some new bits added, but it’s still a Morris Minor.

Ah, Liverpool. Mighty city of the Industrial Revolution. I last visited the city in 1997 (no I have never been to an away game there) with my mate in his 1989 Vauxhall Astra. We parked in a city centre car park for the day and returned to find a brick through the windscreen and the radio cassette player stolen. All in all about £1000 worth of improvements.
I've never been back since but would love to go again today to see how it's changed.

Here's another analogy for you. A Scouser changes her hair, has her teeth done, her nose, lips, breasts, vaginoplasty & vajazziled, puts on lace underwear, a posh frock & shoes, gets some fake tannage & a generous amount of make-up, but she's still a ScouserXx

The Cavern is cool, and I've done the docks and the city central area. Rest of Liverpool I'd happily swerve though.

My daughter lives there. I swear she is turning scouse every time she visits. They wear house coats instead of dressing gowns and go Up the Wirral. Strange beings indeed.
I am planning a visit to see the Terracotta Army though, love that sort of stuff. I'll visit the Pyramids one day when you can go on a day trip^.

I was in Liverpool last week to sort out family matters.I had been to the shopping bits before but never Lime St.When I walked out of Lime St it was like going to some parts of London around the museums-spectacular buildings/statues on top of plinths etc.I will certainly be going up again soon.

I haven't got a clue. Every time she comes home it takes a day to tune into what she's saying. I check my car still has wheels on it now when she goes home^. To be honest it's lovely where she lives not far from the docks and she has a great job in the City. I couldn't believe the difference between Liverpool and Stoke when she first moved there for Uni. Worlds apart in terms of investment and modernity.
