It's the same bollocks spouted for every tournament that isn't in our back yard.
"Don't go to South Africa, you'll thank me when you're not shot to pieces on a bus."
"You're going Ukraine!? Don't say I didn't tell you so when you're kidnapped and forced to participate in an underground mixed martial arts tournament where you'll fight to the death against a bloke called Pavel."
"Brazil!? I don't think so. Do I look like the sort of person who fancies my skull being used as a candle holder in some favela."
Absolute first rate British xenophobia.

We should think about pulling out of the World Cup at the same time as business decides to cut all their ties with Russia, which of course won't happen. And the Government return all the donations they've received from Russia. The British government have received donations from Russia? That's fascinating, please tell us more.

I did look at going, then decided to get married in early June, sort of put the brakes on this one
always wanted to see Russia
I imagine that no trouble will happen, a small minority of Russians will want a scrap but not many, the average Russian will want to sell beer and food to tourists and be hospitable, I am lucky to have travelled with Stoke around Europe and the odd little fight has occurred but in the whole the host country were welcoming and pleased to have us, especially in St Pauli

But this time the warning comes from Tom Tugendhat MP. He is a former colonal in army intelligence, former military assistant to the Chief of Defence staff and is Chairman of The Foreign Affairs Select Committe. I wouldn't dismiss what he says too lightly.

Any fool who thinks that the organised RUSSIAN hooligan militia are not a threat are just blind to what has been happening over the last number of years. Last year I wrote and produced a song which is on Youtube. In a very short time it has had over 5000 hits so I feel it is a contentious issue and one that will be very prevalent in the news during the World Cup.

I live in Doncaster. Surrounded by SWFC. SUFC and LUFC fans. Both Sheffield club fans are good lads, but modt Leeds fans are hell bent and going to Russia. I have know some crazy fans of our own but Leeds are absolutley hell bent on going over there creating havoc. There are a few of them that where filmed tusseling with Russian loons at the last World Cup. I am no angel myself where football is concerned but the Leeds loons are round the bend. I can see it going off big time and there will be loss of life. Stay well clear of the World Cup. Why anyone would want to visit the place is beyond me. Good luck to any Stokies thinking about going. You are going to need it. Stoke and Leicester were also having a go at the Russians in France, as far as I am aware. I heard this too at the meat counter in Sainsburys, but our Russian friends weren't as keen when faced with like minded individuals rather than facepainted pissheads.

I think we should boycott. Of your 98’000 odd posts, possibly your most sensible. How on earth can we go and play football in a land that uses deadly nerve toxins routinely in foreign adventures, jails anyone who dare speak up against Putin’s dictatorship, can’t guarantee safety for visitors, particularly those from ethnic minorities and condones widespread cheating by encouraging its athletes to digest all manner of performance enhancing drugs. This is one tournament we should steer well clear of whilst at the same time sending a clear an unequivocal message to the countries leaders.

Anyone going needs their head examining. You are not going to a country where their is a normal police force, don't expect to get any sympathy from the police is you are attacked, and I think that is a certainty. The government have unofficial paramilitary organisations, which will beat the shit out of anyone.

I think these fears are a bit more well founded than the usual scaremongering. Russian hooliganism is widespread and growing (they kicked off against Athletic Bilbao last month) and they don't operate with the same unwritten 'rules' that British hooligans operated with in the past. Anyone is fair game, they don't stop when someone is clearly down and out and don't think twice about using weapons which they'll have even more of in their home country with no borders to cross.
And Russia don't seem to be giving much of a shit about their international reputation right now, if anything they seem to be trying to blatantly antagonise the West. If anything rather than trying to protect foreigners from the gangs they're more likely to tool them up against fans of strategic enemies (us being one of them) then trying to blame the foreign fans for what happened to them. Implausible deniability seems to be their strategy right now. Doing something really blatantly, being caught red handed but simply denying what is staring them in the face and using distraction techniques, lies and slurs against their opponents to create a siege mentality and a perception that 'everyone is against Russia' and are trying to blame them for anything. The political equivalent of stealing a slice of pizza from someone and eating it in front of their face, then denying it when confronted about it and claiming victimisation.
It won't be the worst case scenario but there's definitely a danger of some significant problems.

They should have sent Enola Gay to Moscow. We should have bombed the country who at the time were fighting on our side against the Nazi's? Millions of Russians lost their lives fighting Hitler - if it hadn't been for their sacrifice the outcome of the second world war would have been very different. That's not to defend Stalin - whose regime was one of the worst in history - and the people who suffered under Stalin were the Russians themselves. Also anyone wishing an atom bomb be dropped on any civilian population needs to have a long hard look in the mirror. Putin is a nasty piece of work - and there are some evil bastards among their hooligans, However condemning all Russians for their behaviour is just xenophobic garbage. In terms of the World Cup - it could go either way. Putin will want the World Cup to be a success - and if anyone does anything to put Russia in a bad light will get hit hard. However if any visiting fans kick off the authorities are very likely to turn a blind eye to their local "heroes".

By the way, at that time the war in Europe had already been won, then came the cold war which lasted for decades.

China asked Russia for help because the Japs had invaded Manchuria amongst other atrocities. Stalin kicked the japs out. Its still very contentious as to wether or not the nukes were necessary on Japan.

A boycott is laughable, futile, total hypocrisy and double, or even triple standards. England abandoning the World Cup would have no effect whatsoever on Russia’s foreign policy. It would instead be a way of managing domestic expectation, of giving an impression of action, and of getting out of doing more politically difficult things.
