IF we stay up?
Will the board see the error of their ways and release the money to bring in players where they are needed most?
Or will they think the way we are running the club is keeping us in the Premiership,so why change it?

We will carry on with the complacency and drop the following season like Villa, Wigan, Coventry etc
If we can escape this season without investment we might be able to do it again like three 9th place finishes.
Hopefully it'll be a kick up the backside but this is Stoke were talking about and the chairman thinks it's a lot of fuss about nothing.

I don't agree that there hasn't been (enough) investment. The problems have been:
1. Bad investments: Berahino, Imbula, Wimmer. What could have that expenditure achieved on others. There were others in previous years.
2. Continual investment in the wrong type of MF player. i.e. a defensive MF of better quality than Cameron; instead we have repeated purchased attacking MF / #10s.
3. Failure to create goal scoring opportunities, a problem since we joined the Prem., which is not a Board issue but a management tactical issue. Probably understandable with the managers we have had who were either a manager who believes in missing out the MF, and a manager who was always on the end of an excellent goal creating service and didn't do it himself.

Investing in the right players would definitely be a step in the right direction.
When you look back at the big money signings only Crouch looks like being a success.
It makes you wonder why we took big risks on players like Imbula and Berahino but not with Ba.
Reckless at best incompetent at worst because a club like Stoke can't afford pricey flops without the consequences.

But the main thing I wanted to say is that we have spent the money, just so fucking poorly it might cost us our division placement

Well one bloody thing that may happen is that we may well be in the championship and Tony bloody Pulis could be in the premier judging by the result they got against Leeds last night. I thought missing my early flight here in Melbourne airport was bad enough but as I down a red wine trying to cheer myself up, I read about the Middlesbrough result last night. Come on stoke, let's beat these fuckers on the south coast and get on a roll!

If we stay up the board will slap each other on the back and see if they can do it even more cheaply next season. Their priority is not to spend.

We have had money, we've just spent it terribly in the main. Carto needs to go, Scholesy can't operate to his full potential with that clown weighing him down.

But the main thing I wanted to say is that we have spent the money, just so fucking poorly it might cost us our division placement Thanks for your considered response. My point 3 is based on our scoring record since promotion. We have rarely scored 3 games in a match each season. Most posters on here have said because we have never invested in a 15+ goals per season striker, but as others have pointed out, the root of the problem is we don't create enough opportunities. The Liverpool victory was a "once in a career" result when everything clicked and Liverpool had "gone to the beach". Such matches do come along like our FAC victory over Bolton, but very rarely. Would that it happens today!

The best players wouldn't come here no what they invested and £15-£20 million dunner buy much these days. So where do you go from there ?

If we can keep the players we have I think we are very close to a solid PL team next season (if we stay up). We need to sign up Staffy permanently, we need another holding midfielder and of course we need a new striker to lead our line. We must also try to offload Imbula, Wimmer, Berahino, Fletcher, Adam, Afellay and Johnson. I guess it will be tough to keep both Butland and Shaqiri, but at least we will get decent money for the pair to strengthen with new players.

Easily sorted Off the books Haugaard wimmer Adam Afellay fletcher Tymon Ireland Johnson. Frees up wages. Purchase/ loan Jese Zouma stafylidis 3rd Gk and a lone striker See if any clubs want our on loan players. For example if we can get imbula off the books purchase a DM who can play CB if needs be. Keep Crouchy and Berahino for home grown numbers. I wouldn't buy Jese Zouma has gone backwards for some reason, probably because it's us, but has huge potential Id buy Stafylidis We will need 2 goalkeepers, even if we do stay up Butland will go No more players that can do a job in another position If we stay up we are going to need £75m-£100m investment 2 X Goalkeepers (first and third choice) 1 X Young CB (Ryans eventual replacement) 1 X DM 2 X CM 1 X RW 1 X LW (Shaq in the middle) 1 X ST

It's what we need though especially if we are getting rid of the players highlighted and Butland will go, Zouma back to chelsea and Jese going back to PSG We could keep Wimmer and only buy 1 more CM then so only 7 players in so say £60M-£70M investment needed minus the £40M for Butland then your looking at only £20M-£30M Net spend investment less if we can get some money for the players we are getting rid of and a few pack of crisps for Imbula

I’m sorry but we’ve been 20th highest spenders out of 22 for three of the last five years 16th and 15th In the other two . three of those years we’ve finished 9th , have a read of the Leicester article on the bbc , we have been and are Chronic under investors And as result will lose the income to enable it

First I think we will scrap/scrape our way to survival (on the last day).
I also think that there is a lot of pondering going on behind the scenes. 1. Can the Coates family afford to stay in charge? 2. If not, has anyone 'suitable' expressed an interest?
I will assume the answer to my first question is 'yes'. This triggers questions about how much (cash & other resources) the club want to invest to re-build/'re-shape SCFC.
One extra problem we face is that several (half the table) other clubs (including the likes of Arsenal & Everton) also need to re-build - so attracting the right players/backroom staff will be as difficult & expensive as ever.

A bridge to be crossed should we come to it I would suggest! Even if we get relegated, we need to cross the bridge regarding investment in key areas for a tougher league. Regardless of the league we're in we absolutely have to spend. We need a striker, we still need a holding midfielder and a winger at a minimum. Unfortunately Gods, I am afraid that the bridge we cross is dilapidated and will collapse on us when cross it.

If we stay up? Well, to start with I see this as a 25% chance. ✌️
However, the Club is not pig poor - so hopefully they'll realize we need two(2) top class forward strikers. We have needed that for too long now, for many many years. Last time I remember must have been under Lou Macari, with Stein and Biggins scoring and scoring ... They were top class, for the level we were in then.
But now we're in the Prem L. Therefore we need Prem L quality top class forward strikers.
Simple logic.
Too see this club winning something would be nice, not only for the audience but also for the owners, instead of being on the top 30 richest clubs-list ... What for?
😜

If they are unwilling to invest now to build the squad, I don’t expect anything different in the Champions. They have several opportunities to rebuild between seasons and have not succeeded. I am not sure if it’s poor manager, lack of funds, incompetent recruiting, recruits going for better options or a combination of all four. This may be as good as it get.
