...ever been so good that it's been applauded by an opposition player? (similar to a snooker player tapping the table after a good shot from his opponent)

Pretty sure Drogba was visibly impressed with Papiss Cisse’s mental goal against Chelsea.

I was told by a reputable Arsenal fan that Newcastle fans applauded Dennis Bergkamps goal for Arsenal at St. James Park in 2002. Bergkamp cheekily pulled a Newcastle players pants down by flicking the ball around the defender before running past this player & coolly slotting the ball passed Shay Given. Think this goal went on to be a goal of the season & was a sublime finish.
For my disliking of Arsenal now, they have had some quality players over the early part of Wengers reign & Bergkamp is arguably one of the best players/finishers the Premier Leagues seen.

I've applauded a few against us that were cracking goals. Sometimes just have to appreciate the quality on the pitch.

It was very common for fans to applaud opposition goals in the 60s and 70s started to die out in the 80s.
there is a youtube vid of John Mahoney scoring at St.James Park around 73/74 and you can see and hear some Newcastle fans applauding a very good goal. There is a ripple of respectful applause as a mark of appreciation rather than enthusiasm obviously!....within seconds after that though you hear another section of the Newcastle crowd sing 'youre gonna get your fucking heads kicked in!'

Nothing to do with the quality of the goal and was helped by the fact we were 5-0 up at the time but 90% of the ground applauded Gerard’s goal

Jimmy Greaves applauded a brilliant save made by John Farmer from his shot and walked up to shake his hand.

Greenhoff at Birmingham , the whole ground applauded it Not quite the whole ground, you can find the video on youtube, but it's fair to say a good few Blues fans clapped it, the older ones generally. No idea if this is true or not but the legend that was Robin Friday once scored a goal that was so good apparently the referee applauded it as he was walking back to the halfway line. I've clapped a few - Drogba's goal against us in our first or second season up, chest control, turn, smashed it past Sorensen, Bale's left foot volley, the Valencia goal at our place in the Europa. Sometimes, the quality of the thing outweighs the disappointment of letting one in. Not often, but sometimes it's good to realise you're not so much of a one-eyed supporter that you can't simply appreciate a piece of footballing genius no matter who does it.

Watch the one, the only, the great Jimmy Greenhoff score a wonder goal v Blues.
Look at the crowd's reaction, loads of Blues fans applaud.
(I was there that day, we won 3-0 to go top of the First Division)
Happy days.

Dunno about players.
I applauded Thorne's hat trick against us but mostly because he was classy as fuck about not celebrating it.
I applauded Figueroa's halfway-line effort against us too.

I know when we were slaughtered by Man City the club put out a tweet congratulating City.
And didn't they put out a video of Ryan Mason's goal after he recently retired?
