Saints have a very defensive minded manager in Pellegrino. If they take an early lead he will then sit them back.
For Stoke to have any chance at this we need pace in the team and we need to close them down on every occasion. Most opposition that go there continue to put pressure on the saints players as 9 times out of 10 they try to play the ball out from the back.
Pellegrino always plays one upfront and tries to adapt the possession game. This is a very winnable game for Stoke if Lambert has done his homework. Its imperative that the ball is pushed through Shaq almost every time we attack, Romeu is a clogger and will struggle to cope with him if he plays the DM role.
If I was Lambert Id play one or both of Ramadan and Jese out wide due to their pace and trickery. When Saints lost 1-4 to Leicester at home a few months back they struggled to deal with the quick counter attack and pace of Vardy and Mahrez. If Lambert plays a pace side against Saints then I fancy us to get something.
However, If Lambert employs the lump it up the pitch approach then it will be completely pointless as the two Saints central defenders, Hoedt and Stephens will have Diouf for toast.

Both teams are equally shit. However, we have a sprinkling of haplessness too. Eg missing last minute penalties, throwing away leads, chucking own goals into our own net. So Southampton will take the points here Sounds like that's what you want! I think I've said previously nott1 that you, and others like you are completely responsible for our impending relegation. It is people of your ilk, clueless, resistant to change, that put us in this mess. And you spent all your time on this board slamming anyone who said change was needed. You should be ashamed of yourself. :-) Me, I've just accepted the situation caused by you

Isn't it at Southampton that Cameron puts in his one decent cross of the season, I'm going for 1-1 ,Crouch equaliser from a Cameron cross.

They seem worried about Crouch too and are relieved that he is a doubt. It's odd in life how differently others see you to how you see yourself. Crouch could be a danger to them with the right service their defence is pretty weak , even if they have dafended throughout the team better tan we did before Lambert

Its going to be a shit football match.
I hope Shaq doesnt score first for us, because we seem incapable of holding a lead after he scores.
We cant hold onto a 1 nil lead to save our life

Someone needs to tell him to score in the 89th minute, then we might stand a chance of getting a win. its actually all Shaqiri's fault - he scores too early in games

If we play like we did at Leicester, we will get something from the game.
If we play how we played against Brighton we won’t.
I feel this is a defining game. Are we improving? In 24hrs we will know.

We are second bottom, won one away all season and can't score goals to save our life yet people still come on here predicting we'll win and score 3 goals!!
I think it's lovely to be optimistic but at what point does realism kick in with people ?
People like on the thread (sorry to pick on Nott1) who would still have Hughes here yet they accuse others of being negative ffs
We need something this afternoon and personally I am shitting myself sitting on a train on my way down there - pehaps it's easier to be optimistic in the comfort of your armchair ?

That is why I said they're better than us on paper. On form, they're just as bad, but on paper, they have much better players in most areas of the pitch. They just achieved a decent draw with Burnley, with a team that has 4 or 5 players that would instantly walk into our team. Not many of ours would get into theirs. Shaqiri and Butland maybe? I think they have a better central midfield, but not on form. Their strikers are awful too, and their centre halves are dreadful. I'd take the majority of our team over theirs. A combined XI would probably be: Butland Bauer Shawcross Indi Bertrand Allen Lemina Badou Shaqiri Long Redmond Long is only in there by virtue of how dreadful our strikers are. He's the least shit of an awful bunch but i'd still think we didn't have enough up front if you added him to our squad. I like Ward-Prowse but on form, Badou is in there over him. Redmond is in on paper only, Choupo would be in there but i'm angry at him, and Jese with game time would be in there. So funny Long is fucking useless and Redmond equally as wank - when was the last time your watched Southampton play ?
