Its staggeringly astounding we have an 18 million pound Centre Back that cant even make the bench. Its nuts! Will he even make the bench? Could see Johnson or Pieters picked at CB before Wimmer which is just insane. If he's not good enough for the bench he shouldn't be on it!

This doesn't bear thinking about! www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-lambert-joe-allen-1265721Lambert has hinted that he will retain Geoff Cameron at centre half for Stoke City if both skipper Ryan Shawcross (ankle) and Bruno Martins Indi (calf) fail to shake off their fitness concerns in time for St Mary’s on Saturday.Would that mean Fletcher or Charlie in midfield? I’d rather go 4231 than have Adam or Fletcher in. Recipe for disaster.

Surely Adam and fletcher have been cast aside, never to return?

I have to say, when BMI went off on Saturday, I was surprised he disrupted the midfield which was the key reason for our relative comfort in the game. I half expected Erik to slot in as left sided centre half.
Maybe too risky part way through a game but if Ryan and BMI are struggling this week, you have to think it is something Lambert would look at.
That way, we avoid having to rely on Wimmer, Fletcher or Adam, even for 1 game.
Saturday is massive. We can't afford to be fielding Wimmer in a back line and you don't really want Fletcher involved from the start either.

A win would be fantastic
A draw A very decent point
A loss A nightmare
We are not set up to play for A clean sheet.
But We need to get something out of the game. One point or three

Ramadan never produces anything, he's useless in the final third. I don't understand why anyone would want him out there.

Id be tempted to go with ................Jack............... .....Zouma......Ryan......Indi..... Bauer......Allen....Badou......Staf .........Shaq..........Jese........ ...............Choupa.............. not one for switching things around to much but we need to switch things up front. Go with that unless Crouch fitt thenI would Put him up front

As much as I like Biram as a bloke, he’s just not up to the job. I’d leave him out and gamble on Jese. Choupo doesn’t look interested. I think he’s got some quality but there’s no effort - and we need them to be sweating blood and guts at the moment (see Joe Allen for details). I’d go with... Butland Bauer Ryan (or BMI if injured) Zouma Staffy Geoff Withnail Allen Ramadona Shaq Jese 100% my best 11 too I like this with Crouch in reserve as a plan b

You'd say we have 3 options really.
Start 433, the same as last game. This leaves us lacking in creativity massively and looking a bit shit on the ball. Defensively it's the most solid we've looked in years though.
Start 4231, with 3 from Shaq/Jese/Choupo/Ramadan behind a striker. The only formation that's worked for us in the last 6 years, should help massively with the creativity issue. Means either dropping one of Allen or Badou for Cameron, or starting with an Allen/Badou midfield two that I'd expect Saints to pass around and through with ease.
Start 343, with Shaq and 2 from Jese/Choupo/Diouf/Ramadan/Saido/Crouch up front. We have our 3 best centre halves back, two players who on paper can play wing back well, and a midfielder with a bit of pace and energy to fit next to Allen. Could help get Shaq in more important areas and stop him being isolated so much. Means we gift them the midfield, and can't press too high for fear of being countered on. It's also been shambolic at times in the past, with essentially the same squad.
Honestly, I have no idea. I'm almost certain he'll stick with the 433 though.

nice analysis here. I agree he'll stay 433. I'd play same lineup as last week except insert Jese for Choupo.

Jese for Choupo would be my only change, unless Ryan is fit enough to replace Kurt. Crouch on bench, if fit.

Butland Bauer Zouma Indi Stacey Cameron Allen Badou Shaq Ramadan Diouf I'd be happy with that. Reckon it could be Crouch up top tho. He scored the winner last year from memory

Disagree that the 4231 is the only formation 'that's worked in the last 6 years'. We've got results with 433 and 442 (particularly against Man U.) The 433 last season steadied the ship and again gained results. And there's plenty of evidence that we havn't relinquished midfield with a 343 see Arsenal/ man u etc. And we havn't got 'essentially the same squad' have we? Bauer, Stafy and N'Diaye, with Edwards as back up for wingback. Apart from that I agree Lambert is most likely to stick with a 433 type job.

It has absolutely never worked well for us. I don't really think Hughes ever did the 433, it was 4231 with Allen at 10. We were just so defensive it didn't seem like it. We had 23% possession vs Arsenal and 37% against Man Utd. We gave up the midfield. I meant more the centre halves who struggled in the 343. Hopefully Bauer, Staf and Badou would help but its a balance of who was to blame for poor performances in the 343.

Hughesy always put a twist on any formation but seemed to me after the Crystal Palace match he switched Bojan for Cameron, it was much more of a 433. As was the False 9 if we're being technical. He finished many a game 442{ish}, but specifically in the a couple of encounters with Man U it was more of a 442, though granted neither of our managers fully utilised a front two with someone nippy around Crouch, though he tried it a couple of times with a 352 {Liverpool, Chelsea xmas 16/17}. It's all a bit of a blur now tbh.. The possession stats re Arsenal and to an extent Man U this season are a bit irrelevant {imo}, neither of them really penetrated us, Arsenal did a lot of passing about in their half as I recall. Seemed to me the abandonment of the 343 this season was about the injury to Ryan, and Bruno and Zouma, perhaps linked to some fear vs Man City. It was all a bit disjointed, makeshift and head scratching after that and never really 343. Anyoo, I wouldn't be so down on the 343 with these new additions

Is there any danger of this game being postponed due to the weather ?
The S coast is getting a battering on Thur and Friday. Ceartainly won’t be a pleasant journey for the supporters.

Pez- If you're going 4411 with Shaq at 10, you've surely got to have someone with pace in front of him rather than Crouchy so as to best exploit his ability to weight a pass into space.

I believe the whole country is being battered by this cold spell. given the treacherous driving conditions is their a case for all football to be cancelled on Saturday? I know all prem teams have under soil heating and enough staff to clear the area but even home supporters have to travel. at the end of the day its only a game.

Hope you do not get a referee like Madley who started the move which led to Southampton's last-minute equaliser on Saturday.
If Saints stay up by one point, I would feel sorry for the 18th team.
